Research Methodology
In this chapter, the research methodology is being discussed. This presents the research design in the
study, respondents, research environment, research instruments, data collection procedure, and the
statistical treatment.
Research Design
This research used a quantitative type of research method. The researchers collected quantitative data by
conducting a survey to 100 selected G12 SHS students of PHINMA – Cagayan de Oro College under

PHINMA-Cagayan de Oro College Map from Google Map The study and the gathering of data will be conducted at PHINMA - Cagayan de Oro College located at Max Y. Suniel St, Cagayan de Oro, 9000 Misamis Oriental. PHINMA - Cagayan de Oro College is a centre of teaching with fiscal autonomy providing quality education, accessible, affordable fees, offered scholarships especially to the poor and underprivileged. This school started the operations as Parent-

Teacher College in 1948 and later on transfer at Barangay Carmen in the year 1955. On 1967, the given name was change into Cagayan de Oro College. From 1981 to 1998, Cagayan de Oro College began to offer different programs and received awards from Philippine association of College and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA) and Commission of Higher Education (CHED). In the year 2005, PHINMA Education Network acquired Cagayan de Oro College and changed its name again as PHINMA-Cagayan de Oro College. In addition, PHINMA-COC's mission is to make the lives better of every student through education. Respondents In selecting the respondents suited for the study, the researchers focused on the G12 SHS-IT students in PHINMA – Cagayan de Oro College. The selected students are the respondents of the study and survey. The researchers chose one hundred selected G12-SHS-IT students as respondents in classrooms. Regardless of the students’ age, and sex, they were asked questions about their usage of social media and more close-ended questions in a survey form. Research Instruments The researchers used survey questionnaires as a tool for gathering sufficient data. The study requires statistical data and reliable sources to support the claims of the study. The survey questionnaire is composed of close-ended questions. This is also used to efficiently evaluate the statistical data of the study. The respondents’ cooperation helped the researchers analyze, interpret, and evaluate the data effectively. The research questions were based on their usage of social media and its possible effects on the academic performances of G12 SHS-IT students. Data Collection Method The researchers selected 100 Grade 12 students under the course of Information Technology (IT) to be the respondents of the study. In data collection procedure, the researchers asked for formal request to conduct surveys. After the approval, the researchers asked for the time availability of the students to
