Medical Surgery Weekly Journal
Throughout the week, I faced several challenges while observing how staff members put
on and removed their personal protective equipment (PPE). Despite these challenges, I persisted
and was ultimately able to achieve my goal of obtaining a positive outcome. I'm proud of my
team and the safety measures we implemented to protect both employees and patients. We took
great care to ensure that everyone followed the appropriate protocols and guidelines, and we
made necessary adjustments to our procedures when needed. During my observations, I noticed a
significant gap between the actual and expected performance of staff members in regards to
donning and doffing PPE. While some staff members followed the visual guidelines posted on
each patient's door, others forgot or neglected to do so. However, I was pleased to find that the
majority of staff members followed the depicted steps. This was a positive development, but I
also identified an area where the organization could make significant improvements. If I were in
a leadership position, I would take a proactive approach to address the issue. I would personally
approach the staff member and reinforce the importance of proper doffing procedures. I would
take the opportunity to offer re-education on the correct methods and stress the importance of
following them for their own safety and the safety of others. Additionally, I would provide
regular training and support to ensure that all staff members understand the significance of
adhering to proper PPE protocols. By doing so, we can maintain a safe and healthy working
environment for everyone involved.
