STRATHMORE INSTITUTE
Topic: Sampling Techniques
Submission Date: 25th June 2024
Part 1
Imagine the Project Research, that you are doing this semester or you will do in your due semester. In summary,
share;
1. Which research topic are you tackling or will you intend to tackle?
2. What will be your population target?
3. What will be your sample?
4. What will be your sampling size and how have you arrive at that size? (show calculations or cite your
reference)
5. What sampling technique will you use and why is it the most suitable for your study?
The above section will be graded, based on the logic of thought and application of sampling knowledge
Part 2
1. Due to the “#ofcoursechallenge” on TikTok, you hypothesize that students at Strathmore University are
more extroverted (on an introversion/extroversion scale) than other University students. To answer your
research question, you need to obtain a sample of DBIT” students and a sample of “DBM” students. For
each of these two populations of students, how would you obtain simple random samples? Elucidate your
steps.
2. For the hypothesis in question 1, describe how you would obtain samples using stratified random sampling,
with stratification based on the sex of the student. Assume that 60% of the IT Students are women.
3. For the hypothesis in question 1, describe how you would obtain samples using convenience sampling.
4. For the hypothesis in question 1, describe how you would obtain samples using quota sampling based on
the sex of the student. Again, assume that 60% of the IT Students are women.
5. For the hypothesis in question 1, describe a poor method of sampling that you believe would result in
systematic sampling error and thus bias the research findings. Explain why you believe the sample would be
biased.
Instructions
The above assignment should NOT be more than 2 pages long. The Assignment should be
handwritten.
