Networking Part II

Prepare a written step-by-step plan of how you are going to design a Local Area

Network including a blueprint of your LAN.

Scenario

Athula Traders is a Steel fabricating company operating in Negombo. They have an office in

the town and the workshop in Kurana. They use a computer system to handle the orders

and the processes. They have connected their LANs using the internet by means of ADSL

Routers. The system has been developed using Word press based PHP and operates on a

cloud server. Inside the workshop there are 6 computers for each of the 3 different

divisions excluding laptops.

1. Chief Engineer

2. Work bench

3. Work Coordinator

The chief engineer uses a laptop while the work coordinator uses 2 desktops.

The work bench consists of 4 Desktop machines. Each of these units has to be connected

together through the system.

Justification Document I have suggested an ethernet protocol based wired connection using UTP with wire connected WiFi access points. I could also have used a totally WiFi based LAN with Wifi adaptors plugged in each desktop. Will have to use more wifi extenders. Advantage is less expensive than wires. Can be easy in connecting new devices. But can have more interruptions and unauthorized entry. Third option is the FDDI which is unnecessarily fast and expensive.
