1.10 Circuit Learning Planning Sheet, Example, and Template
SECTION ONE: Planning Sheet
Before you begin the assessment, let’s make sure you understand the concept of CIRCUIT LEARNING.
Circuit learning is a strategy you can use to help you move information from your short term memory to
your long term memory. Think of circuits as connections. You can create a schedule that helps your
brain “circle back around” to information you have already learned and you want to remember.
It could work like this: Let’s say you have 3 tests coming up in school, and you need to study for all
three. You want to review the material for a few minutes each day instead of waiting to “cram” at the
last minute. Let’s set your PRIORITIES.
School subject/Science: Preparing for this exam may require the most studying, so this will become
Priority A. You need to learn the first 15 elements in the Periodic Table, and you created Power Pegs as
a memory tool. Now look at the GREEN part of the example study schedule below. Notice how we
spend a larger chunk of time on Priority A on day 1, and then that time decreases each day after that.
School subject/Critical Thinking: Your first Discussion Based Assessment in Critical Thinking is coming
up. You have note taking guides for each lesson to use for review. This could be Priority B. Now look at
the BLUE part of the sample study schedule below. Notice the amount of time for Priority B each day.
School subject/History: Your third test is in History and you are a whiz at that subject. You just need a
little time to review the leaders in the first American colonies, and you created a narrative chain to help
you. This could be Priority C. Now look at the RED part of the sample study schedule below. How many
minutes do you think I would need for Priority C on day 5 if the schedule continued?
Personal activity/Piano: You need to work on your piano solo for the upcoming recital. Practicing often
in short amounts of time is the best way to improve, so that could be your Priority D.
Personal activity/Running: The 5K is next month, so it’s important that you train often so you are ready
for the big day. This event could be your Priority E.
SECTION TWO: Example Study Schedule
Now that you have your Priority List, it’s time to create a Circuit Learning schedule. Set a goal of
reviewing material for a total of 40-45 minutes each day. Here is a 4 day example schedule:
