Semiconductors

At 0K, highest energy of the outermost shell(valence bond) is defined as fermi energy.

A doped semiconductor has impurity level 30 meV below

the conduction band

(a) find the order of temperature at which electron is just

able to jump from donor level to conduction band.

(b) Find wavelength of radiation that should be incident

on it, so that large number of free electrons are created.

Example:

If resistivity of pure Silicon is 300 ohm-m and

find

(a) resistivity of N type semiconductor, if 10^19 Phosphorus are added per cubic meter.

(b) resistivity of P type semiconductor, if 2*10^19 B atoms are added per cubic meter.
