1. Seminar details. Seminar Title: Seminar on Total Site Analysis 26 May 2023 10.00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Online Webinar Speaker: Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Sharifah Rafidah Datu Wan Alwi Professor of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) 2. Summarize what you have learned from the seminar. ● The environmental issues that we are facing right now (e.g, global warming, heatwave) are closely related to human activities, especially energy generation. ● Concept of Net Zero Emission and the future trend of the industry toward this concept ● The carbon management emission hierarchy: Avoid (Emission), Reduce (Emission), Substitute (change sources of energy), Sequester (undertake emission and store it), Offset (offset residual emission by carbon credit) ● Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM) by Bursa Malaysia: Starting the carbon credits trading ● Revisit the concept of Eco Industrial Park and Industrial Symbiosis ● Introduction to the network of total site heat integration concept to maximize heat exchange among industrial plant ● Total site composite curve and problem algorithm table of Total Site Heat Integration ● Concept of Hybrid Power System (HPS) ● Interplant wastewater exchange concept ● Ways for carbon recovery and waste management pinch analysis ● Source of carbon dioxide and demand of it, and the technology of “Carbon dioxide battery” to ease the transportation of the carbon dioxide 3. Q&A during seminar

5) What are the efforts or initiatives to encourage the industry in Malaysia to move toward process integration? What is the biggest challenge facing the industry to move toward this direction? Answer: The government support and initiative is very important. The government is moving toward Net Zero Emission. Therefore the government may remove subsidies and create more stringent regulation to encourage the industry toward this direction. The government may also implement carbon tax 6) Prof, may I ask for the centralized waste system, it only treat the waste that is not hazardous/toxic like wastewater treatment? If there is a toxic/hazardous chemical waste, the design team should treat it inside their plant Answer: Normally those hazardous waste will be sent to Kualiti Alam, for the gas one maybe some of it will be incinerated. Some waste may be possible to be sold to other companies 7) For clarification, does all DT have to do a pre-treatment plant first, then send the wastewater to this centralized waste system? Answer: Normally the wastewater will be pretreated first. The water in the boiler can be recycled too

4. Reflection on how it connects to the PD project. A Centralised Utility Facility is important in every plant, especially in the chemical plant because it helps to maintain proper process conditions like pressure, temperature, etc., without which it will be impossible to carry out the process. For example, if Steam at a higher temperature than desired enters Heat Exchangers, the Exchangers may get damaged. Air, water, steam, refrigeration, fuel, furnace, insulation, etc., are the common utilities used in Chemical plants. This can be applied in the centralized utilities in Verbund Team. It also helps the team responsible for the utility facility to set some requirements that each design team should follow. 5. What further knowledge may you still need to learn to complete the PD project related to the title.

We want to know if there are any requirements that we should follow before distributing the utilities or if it depends on the Verbund team. We also want to know more about the P&ID of the utility facility.
