Emergence of 6
th
sense
technology
Idea behind this technology was started late in 1990’s by
Steve Mann at MIT who actually proposed first
wearable computer.
First proposed head worn projector and camera in 1994,
then he developed it and proposed neck worn projector
and camera during 1998.
It was further developed in the future by Pranav Mistry
who is a PhD student in the Fluid Interfaces Group at
MIT Media Lab.
Captures an object’s view and tracks the hand gestures
It sends data to smart phone
It acts as Digital eye connecting to the world of digital
information.
The Projector projects visual information on any
enabling surface or on object itself.
Marking the User’s fingers with different colours helps camera
to identify gestures
The movements and arrangements of these markers are
interpreted as gestures that acts as interaction instructions for
the projected application interface.
Applications
The drawing application let the user draw on any
surface by tracking the fingertip movements of
the user’s index finger
You can use sixth sense technology to project keypad on your
hand, then use that virtual keypad to make a call
Draw a circle on wrist to get a virtual watch that gives you
correct time
Sixth sense can be programmed to project related videos on to
newspaper articles you are reading
The system can project Amazon ratings and other relevant
information like reviews on the book
The system will recognize your boarding pass and let you
know whether your flight is on time and whether gate has
changed
