Audio Fundamentals
Objective: To provide a basic understanding
of the theory, vocabulary, and technology used
in audio recording and reproduction.
Learning Outcome: After successfully
completing this course a student should be able
to speak and write intelligently about the
process and technology of audio recording and
reproduction
TCB
One of the purposes of this class is to distinguish between
those who will and will not gain candidacy (admission into
RIM upper division courses). While gaining an understanding
of audio fundamentals is part of that process there is another
very important part of the class that impacts on candidacy.
This is your ability to TCB (Take Care of Business). This
means your ability to meet deadlines, follow instructions,
communicate clearly, and to demonstrate your passion for your
chosen career. That is why I will not accept assignments that
are late, turned in without proper identification, emailed to me,
brought into class, poorly written or done contrary to the
provided instructions. Similarly, I expect all tests to be
completed within the test period and test time limit. Only in
the most exceptional of documented circumstances will I
divert from this policy.

Grades TCB

  • Grade points may be viewed on D2L. It is your responsibility to review and report any grade problems in a timely manner.
  • Due dates and times for on-line quizzes are specific and will be enforced. No make-ups for unannounced in- class or on-line quizzes will be offered.
  • Due dates, and assignment instructions for extra credit projects are specific and will be enforced. No late assignments will be accepted. Reduced or no credit will be given for assignments improperly submitted.

On-Line Testing

  • Tests will be given on-line. The tests will be open to take for a specific period of days which will be announced in class. You MUST take and submit the test within the announced open period. Each test must be completed within an interval of time equal to one class period. That is 85 minutes for the section test and 120 minutes for the final. Once you start the test you must continue until it is completed. If you go over the announced test time interval points will be deducted. These tests are open note, open book tests. Tests are random questions with random answer sequences. Group test taking is prohibited.

Attendance & Class Etiquette:

  • I do not take attendance. You may come to class, or not, as you choose or your lifestyle dictates. If you do choose to come to class I insist on professional behavior and the following simple rules of etiquette: - Be on time. Do not come into class late. - Do not leave early. Plan on staying until class is dismissed. - Pay attention to the lecture or demonstration. - Do not wear headphones during class. - Do not take or make phone calls during class. - Do not text or email during class. - Finally, if you are in class I expect you to participate in class activities.

Attendance & Class Etiquette:

  • If you choose not to attend class please be

aware of the following:

  • Unannounced in-class pop quizzes may be given and cannot be made up.
  • Extra credit assignments may be given in class and cannot be made up.
  • While all of the material needed to pass (C grade) the class is available in the text and/or in the PowerPoint slides additional test material will be included in the class lectures.

D2L

  • Please log onto D2L using the https://elearn.mtsu.edu/ address. While it is possible to access D2L through your MTSU Pipeline account/page I suggest against it. Pipeline will time you out with little or no notice.
  • You should click on the “Check Your System” message on the D2L home page to make sure your computer is ready to go. D2L works best with Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari browsers. Other browsers may not work with all file types and this could be a big problem when taking the section and final tests!
  • For D2L help go to: http://www.mtsu.edu/d2lsupport/

D2L TCB

  • You should check the D2L course page every

day. News, assignments, extra credit options,

and new PowerPoint shows will be posted as

needed. You are responsible for everything

that appears on the D2L course page.
