Q1. (a)

(i) Identify and elaborate on two reasons for working in projects. [4 Marks] (ii) How does PRINCE2 define a project? [2 Marks] (iii)What does the acronym PRINCE stand for? [1 Mark] (iv) Differentiate between a product lifecycle and a project lifecycle. [4 Marks]

(b) Explain, briefly, the relationship between corporate/programme organisation and projects. [4 Marks]

(c) Identify, and elaborate on, five benefits that can be expected from the adoption of a project management methodology, such as PRINCE2. [10 Marks]

Q2. (a) (i) In PRINCE2, which of the following is NOT a valid Risk Management action? Prevention; Denial; Reduction; Transference. (ii) In PRINCE2, why is a copy of the Project Issue always returned to the author? (iii)Complete the following: In PRINCE2, all potential changes are dealt with as... (iv) PRINCE2 lists a number of reasons why it is seldom desirable and/or possible to plan an entire project in detail at the start. State any two such reasons. (v) In PRINCE2, what period of time and/or project-work is covered by an Exception Plan? [10 Marks]

(b) Elaborate on each of the following PRINCE2 elements: (i) Configuration management [5 Marks] (ii) Change Control [5 Marks] (iii)Directing a project [5 Marks]

Q3. (a) The system development lifecycle covers the entire life of a system, from feasibility study up to and including maintenance. A project lifecycle , typically, covers the delivery of whatever has been defined as constituting the end-product of a project. (i) Explain how the traditional lifecycle model known as the Waterfall model/linear sequential model might be applied on an IT project. [7 Marks] (ii) The Dynamic Systems Development Method, (DSDM), Consortium owns the agile lifecycle model known as DSDM. Identify, and elaborate on, the principles embraced in the 2007 version of DSDM. [10 Marks]

(b) Describe, in detail, the Quality Review Technique, used by PRINCE2. [8 Marks]

Q5. (a) Consider the following functions of leadership: (i) Executive; (ii) Scapegoat; (iii)Arbitrator.

Identify, and elaborate briefly on, four other functions of leadership. [6 Marks]

(b) Elaborate on John Adair’s leadership model. Your presentation should address each of the following: (i) Needs of the team; (ii) Needs of the task; (iii)Needs of the individual. [9 Marks] (c) Explain the influence that each of the following business trends Have had on the increased the use of international/virtual teams: (i) Globalisation; (ii) Off-shore working; (iii)Increased problem complexity; (iv) Use of information technology.
