Data pane Folders - Folders (Right click in the Data Pane and choose Create Folder, then select Field(s), right click, Folders, Add to Folder, and choose the Folder you want or click and drag the field to the folder) Group by Folders - data is grouped by how you organized the data into folder names Group by Data Source Table - the dimensions and measures are grouped according to the database table they belong to Data pane sorting - Sorting (Right click in the Data Pane and choose Sort by Name) Sort by Name - lists the dimensions and measures in alphabetical order according to their field aliases Sort by Data Source Order - lists the dimensions and measures in the order they are listed in the underlying data source Data pane capabilities - Change the Default Comment Change the Default Color For Dimensions Only - Change the Default Shape and Sort For Measures Only - Change the Default Number Format, Aggregation, and Totals For Dates Only - Change the Default Date Format and Fiscal Year Start

Icons with a red exclamation mark mean that the field is invalid or the calculation you created is not correct Dimensions and measures other icons - Other icons to the left of the Dimension or Measure indicate which field type Date is the calendar Date/Time would have a clock to the bottom right of the calendar

Numeric values

ABC Text values The Shelf - A plus sign to the left of a field notifies the user that they can drill up or down within the field of data and that there is a hierarchy within the data The sort icon to the right of a field indicates that field has been Sorted in the view A green pill indicates a Continuous field A blue pill indicates a Discrete field Show Me - Show Me is one way a user can begin to build the visualization The Show Me menu suggests the best visualization types for the dimension and measure fields a user selects

Simply clicking on each image/graph will display your chosen dimensions and measures in that format The marks card - The Automatic Mark is default which means Tableau automatically selects the best mark type for your data view the marks card types - Marks can be bars, dots, shapes, squares, polygons, circles, pies, text, numbers, maps, and lines Filter Card - Showing Filters can allow other users to interact with the data by allowing them to define their own filters and build the view how they want to view the visualization To show a user a filter, right click on the pill and select Show Filter When the filter is shown, a user can define if the Filter will be Single Value (list, dropdown, or slider) Multiple Values (list, dropdown, or custom list) A wildcard match Filtering dimensions options - Dimension Filter options are below General - select members for inclusion or exclusion

Filtering dates - Date Filters are used to filter a data subset for specific date or time criteria Filter dates for a range of dates or for a discrete date/time Date Filter options - General Condition Top sorting - Default Sort - can be set for a Dimension in the Default Properties (right click on the Dimension in the Data Pane) and determines how the field will be sorted when it is first added to the worksheet view Default Sort can be either Ascending or Descending Default Sort can be Alphabetical, by Data Source Order, or by a specified Manual Sort Right-click Sorting on a Dimension - Data will sort within a visualization only (right click on the Dimension Pill and select Sort) This Sort overrides the Default Sort and is dynamic meaning the sort order is modified as data changes sorting contin. - This Sort overrides the Default Sort and is dynamic meaning the sort order is modified as data changes
