Part A: Individual Daily Journal Report
Day 1
At 30th September 2018 (Sunday), it was the first day of Taiwan study tour. I sleepoveed
in my group mate, Tan Ying Jie’s hostel because we have to wake up earlier and gather at UTAR
bus stop at 3:45am since she stayed in Sungai Long which is near to UTAR. We went to Kuala
Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2) by UTAR bus.
Before we departed, we got to know each other’s name by introducing ourselves and
took some group photos .The journey from the KLIA2 to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport
took around 4 hours and 45 minutes. Our flight departure at around 8:05am and we reached
around 12:50pm at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport. I bought a Taiwan phone card
immediately because I want to contact my parents to inform them I am arrived safety in Taiwan.
After we completed the immigration, we bought easy card at Taipei metro station because
it brought convenient for our trip. After we bought the easy card we went to CU Hotel Taipei by
MRT. I felt very tired and exhausted because there were no seat on the MRT and I have to carry
a 10kg luggage and a backpack during the way to hotel.
After we checked in our hotels, each of us was given a hotel card. Once we stepped into
the room, all of us was surprised because the hotel room is very small and crowd. My roommates
were Cheah Yue Thoong, Penny Chin Chi Fhui and Tan Ying Jie. We decided to take a rest since
we all felt tired. After that, we went to 7-ELEVEn to buy some snacks and drinks. I found the 7-
ELEVEn that I visited was installed with restroom and it was very clean and there were many
types of microwave foods and beverages that cannot be found in Malaysia.
At night, my friends and I went to Ningxia night market for our dinner. Ningxia night
market serves up many types of Taiwanese street food and many shops around have a history of
at least 40 to 50 years. This night market was very close to our hotel which walking distance
took about 3 minutes from the hotel to Ningxia night market. There was varies of offerings such
as fried yam ball, oyster omelette, braised pork rice, mochi balls, takoyaki, papaya milk, pearl
milk tea and so on.

Part A: Individual Daily Journal Report

Day 1

At 30th^ September 2018 (Sunday), it was the first day of Taiwan study tour. I sleepoveed

in my group mate, Tan Ying Jie’s hostel because we have to wake up earlier and gather at UTAR bus stop at 3:45am since she stayed in Sungai Long which is near to UTAR. We went to Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2) by UTAR bus.

Before we departed, we got to know each other’s name by introducing ourselves and took some group photos .The journey from the KLIA2 to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport took around 4 hours and 45 minutes. Our flight departure at around 8:05am and we reached around 12:50pm at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport. I bought a Taiwan phone card immediately because I want to contact my parents to inform them I am arrived safety in Taiwan.

Before we went to bed, my roommates and I went to friend’s room where located beside our room to chat and discuss about next day schedule. I slept earlier because need to wake up at 5:30am to fresh up.

Day 2

With this precious opportunity, my friends and I walked around the university and took photos. After that, we went to Ximending which is a neighborhood and shopping district. Ximending is very crowded with tourists and Taipei youth and along with shopping and restaurants, also hosts street performances. We walked around Ximending and felt tired so we went to MOS burger to have some burger and rest for a while. Before we went back to hotel, we had our dinner at Ximending, I ate Ay-Chung flour-rice noodle and Taiwan Chinese pancakes.

Once I reached hotel, I went to bath. After bath, I packed my backpack and chatted with my roommates. I slept at 11:30 am because we needed to wake up earlier on next day morning.

Day 3

At 2nd^ October 2018 (Tuesday), I woke up earlier at 5:30am to fresh up. At 7:00am, my

friends and I had our breakfast at the restaurant of our hotel. I ate noodles, scrambled eggs, hash browns, pork belly, grape juice and pineapple. After having breakfast, we gathered at 7:40am at the lobby of hotel and then walked to MRT Shuanglian station to take MRT to university.

We arrived the university before 8:30am. Professor Lin Chi Yun introduced about herself. The class of the day was about suicide prevention education training in theory and suicide prevention education training helping skills in practice. The objective of the class was to understand the myth of suicide and prevention, suicide psychology, listen to anger, suicide assessment and communication skills. Besides, Professor Lin told us the general myth to the suicide and the facts, the myths and facts of suicide of children and teenagers, self-harm and suicide caused by anger. Furthermore, Professor taught us the signal of suicide, suicide and communication skill practice.

Other than that, Professor Lin brought us to Healing Garden. Healing Garden symbolizes a spiritual garden and was built to help people cope with their loss, grief, and life transition. The objectives of this garden includes encouraging people to learn to take care of themselves and ask for help, giving themselves the right to feel sorrowful and then developing different approaches to cope with their grief when they encounter sad events in their lives.

Healing Garden were divided into three sections: the self-care area, the counseling area and the garden of reconciliation. Professor Lin led us walked around the Healing Garden and explained those area. Self-care area included Zen Garden when people encounter loss, the self- care area can be a sacred space for them to release their emotions and find peace from within. The counseling area included Counseling Interaction and Hill of Family Mourning, the counseling area is the place for us to deal with loss and grief. The third area is Garden of Reconciliation, this area included wish pool, heart, and wish. The Garden of Reconciliation is an open area with exuberant foliage and flowers. This area depicts that grief can be healed through horticultural and humanistic and humanistic acculturation and grievers can start afresh with the commemorable of their loved one.

Before we left the Healing Garden, Professor Lin invited all of us held each other hands around the wishing pool to pray and made a wish. The most inspired was wish pool because we can release our repressed feelings of sadness, eagerness and anxiety while our minds may be

At 3rd^ October 2018 (Wednesday), I woke up earlier at 5:30am to freshen up. At 7:00am,

my friends and I had our breakfast at the restaurant of our hotel. I ate noodles, scrambled eggs, French fries, milk. After having the breakfast, we gathered at 7:40am at the lobby of hotel and then walked to MRT Shuanglian station to take MRT to university.

We arrived the university before 8:30am. Professor Li Pei Yi introduced herself. Today class was divided into two session which were lost and grief and grief healing card workshop. The objective of the class was to understand loss, grief and mourning, allows mourning, learning about the grief healing card and experience the grief and healing.

For the first session, Professor Li introduced us loss, grief, mourning, and learning the way of mourning. From the first session, I had learnt what is sad and emotion. Besides, I also learnt how our body, emotion and behavior will react when dealing with sad. For the second session, it was a workshop about grief healing card. In this session, we were divided into a few group to share each other childhood memories that about sadness by using grief healing card. Through this sharing session I had more understanding about my friends, we cried a lot in this session and encouraged each other.

Today class ended at 12:30pm. We met with some international students in NTUNHS because each of us was required to interview two international students as a part of assignment. I realised that those international students are enthusiasm and friendly.

After the interview, we went to Line Friends Café & Store that located in Xinyi district. I took photo with a 3.5 meter high mega Choco statue and walked around the stores. After that, we went to Taiwan landmark which is Taipei 101. Taipei 101 is a majestic and tall building which is 509.2m. I took some photos of the Taipei 101. Besides, we also went to a bookstore which is Kingstone Book to buy some books.

At night, we went back to our hotel. During the way to hotel, I brought my dinner which is a microwave food, carbonara ham spaghetti from a 7-ELEVEn that close to hotel. After bath, my friends and I went to the restaurant of the hotel because it provides free snacks such as biscuits, bread, sweet soup, tea, popcorn and so on from 6:30pm to 9:30pm. I slept earlier at 11:00pm because I felt sleepy.

Day 5

At 4th^ October 2018 (Thursday), it was a rainy day. I woke up earlier at 5:30am to

freshen up. At 7:00am, my friends and I had our breakfast at the restaurant of the hotel. I ate noodles, scrambled eggs, French fries, black sesame bun, and tea. After having the breakfast, we gathered at 7:40am at the lobby of hotel and then walked to MRT Shuanglian station to take MRT to university.

We arrived the university before 8:30am. Today’s class was different from the previous three days. Professors conducted their class in a lecture theatre from the previous three days class. For today class, lecturer conducted his class in the university’s stadium. Before the class started, lecturer asked each of us sat on a yoga mat in a circle.

The class of the day was four hours mindfulness experience workshop. The objective of this workshop was mindfulness treatment concepts and experience mindfulness exercise. The lecturer taught us the application of mindfulness treatment in our life. Besides, lecturer also let us experience mindfulness. Furthermore, lecturer taught us the foundation of mindfulness exercise such as observation of respiratory, five senses, body scanning, dynamic mindfulness and talking and listening to mindfulness.

During the five senses exercise, lecturer gave each of us two raisins. Lecturer wanted us to feel the raisins with our tactile, hearing, nose, eyes, and sense of taste. At the beginning, I thought this was a stupid action but at the end I felt different kind of experience. Moreover, body scanning exercise was also very interesting. This was because lecturer asked us to lie down on the yoga mat and then scanned every part of our bodies. Body scanning exercise is a relax exercise, I accidentally fell asleep because I was very tired. After a few minutes, my friends woke me up and I realized most of the students fell asleep too as they were also tired.

The mindfulness workshop ended at 12:30pm. Before we left the university, we took group photo with the friendly lecturer. After we left the university, we went to Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall by taking MRT. Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall is a national monument, landmark of Taiwan and it surrounded by a park. We took photo and walked around Chiang Kai- shek Memorial Hall in the rain. After that, we went to a café. The café have a lot of K-Pop lightsticks and dolls. I ordered a honey waffle as my high tea.

At night, I went to Shilin Night Market by taking MRT with my friends. Shilin Night Market is the largest and most famous night market in Taipei.I walked around the night market to

orange juice and cereals with milk. After having the breakfast, we gathered at 7:40am at the lobby of hotel and then walked to MRT Shuanglian station to take MRT to university.

We arrived at the university before 8:30am. Today’s class was different from the previous first three days. Professors conducted their class in a lecture theatre from the previous first three day class. For today class, Assistant Professor Huang Chuan Yung conducted his class in a small classroom that without chairs and tables.

The class of the day was four hours art therapy workshop. The objective of this workshop was about introduction of art therapy and functions and experience self-exploration with art therapy. Assistant Professor Huang conducted his class through game session, all of us were interesting on his game session. The first game was choosing the colours that can express ourselves during the current situation from six different colours clothes and explained why we choose the colour. Besides, the second game is “searching yourself”, this game included 3 levels, the first level was the easiest and the third level is the hardest one. This game rule was exchange our name with others and then found ourselves from 30 students. This game was fun and a little bit difficult because it tested our memories. I was successfully found myself in second level and third level.

After the game, Assistant Professor Huang asked us to choose two colours because he wants to teach us origami, he taught us how to made a paper heart and paper boat by using origami paper. I used light blue color origami paper to make paper heart and yellow color for my paper boat. After the origami was done, Assistant Professor placed a blue cloth on the floor and asked us imagine the blue cloth as ocean and then chose a place to place our paper boats on the cloth. After we placed our paper boat, Assistant Professor Huang asked us formed a group of three people to share why you placed your paper boat at the position and talked about future plan.

After that, Assistant Professor Huang distributed us a big black cardboard and then asked us to make sand painting on the cardboard. After we done the sand painting, he required us to name our sand painting. I named my sand painting as “I love Taylor Swift”. After that, he distributed each of us a small bottle and then asked us to collect some sand from our sand painting put into the small bottle. This was because we cannot take back our sand painting to Malaysia but we can bring back the small bottle as a souvenir.

After ended the class, we took a group photo with principal of the NTUNHS. Besides, each of us got a certificate as the completion of 5 days studied in NTUNHS. After that, I brought a microwave food to hotel for my dinner. My friends and I did not visit anywhere because have a sharing session at 9:30pm. At 9:30pm, all of us went to restaurant of the hotel for our sharing session. After the sharing session, I slept earlier because we had to go to many places on next day.

Day 7

At 6th^ October 2018 (Saturday), I woke up a little later than previous six days to freshen

up. At 7:00am, I had my breakfast with my friends at the restaurant of the hotel. I ate porridge,

Day 8 At 7th^ October 2018 (Sunday), it was the last day of Taiwan Study Tour. I woke at

7:00am. At 8:30am I had my breakfast with my friends at the restaurant of the hotel. I ate udon, broccoli, chicken, cincau, black sesame bun, salad and dragon fruit. After breakfast, I went back to my room to pack my luggage and backpack.

We checked out at 10:45am and we placed our baggage at the hotel because our flight was at 11:45pm. After that, we went to Zhongshan through Zhongshan metro mall from MRT Shuanglian station. We brought Taiwan latest milk tea graze which is Tiger Sugar, it got its name from the ‘tiger stripes’ as it forms when the brown sugar mixes with the thick milk tea mixture.

After that, we sat at the street waiting for time to pass. After a while, we found a shopping mall, Shinkong Mitsukhoshi. Shinkong Mitsukoshi is a big shopping mall that can find over different fashionable brands in boutique goods, cosmetics, accessories, 3C products and foods from around the world. The shopping mall is full of visitors because the shopping mall held a big sale on that day.

About 2:00pm, we walked back to Zhongshan metro mall and had our lunch at Family Mart, I ate carborana bacon spaghetti. After lunch, we went to Eslite Underground R79 store. Eslite, one of the Taiwan’s biggest bookstore chains. Eslite Underground R79 store consists of eastern and western poetry, as well as books on humanities and social sciences, cultural and creative products, stationary, food and coffee. We stayed at the bookstore about one hour. Besides, we also walked around the Zhongshan metro station.

At about 4:30pm, we walked to a 7-ELEVEn that close to the hotel to buy some snacks and stayed at there waiting for time to pass. At about 5:30pm, we walked back to hotel because the airport drop off service that we ordered from the hotel was at 6:00pm. At 6:06pm, the driver sent us to Taoyuan International Airport.

The journey from CU Hotel Taipei to Taoyuan International Airport took around 1 hour, we reached at 7:00pm. Once we reached airport, some of us ate Subway for dinner, some of them ate instant noodles. After dinner, we checked in luggages at 10:30pm and boarding at 11:00pm. Our departure time was at 11:45pm and estimated arrival time in Malaysia was 4:20am on 8 September 2018(Monday).
