Team:

A team is defined as “people organized to function cooperatively as a group for a common commitment and purpose”.

Work:

Work is defined as “intentional activity people perform to support themselves, others, or the community”.

TEAMWORK

  • Teamwork is a fusion of three elements – collaboration, compromise and cooperation. When a group of individuals work together, there is bound to be friction because of differing viewpoints.
  • However, people come to a compromise to prevent the downfall of a group. In team-based sports such as football, hockey and cricket, we witness team members leaving their differences behind and working towards a common goal
    • to defeat the opponents.
  • We don’t see competition between the members of the same team because there is no ‘I’ in teamwork. It is true that no one can break a bundle of sticks but one can break single sticks if they are no longer part of a bundle. Similarly, it will be difficult to defeat a team because ‘unity is strength’.
  • It is true that “united we stand, divided we fall”. So, it is only when individuals leave their differences behind and work towards a common goal can they achieve success. In a war, we notice the same phenomenon.
  • Soldiers do not think of their glory and fame when fighting for their country. They put the nation before self. In history books and in reality, we have always seen the victory of teams and the downfall of individuals. This is the beauty of teamwork. The Importance Of Teamwork Teamwork is essential to success and growth. As much as some people like to think they can do it all on their own, the truth is, they can’t. Having a good team of individuals around you not only helps you to stay grounded but also enables you to think in different ways, push boundaries with new ideas and most importantly it provides you with a strong support network. It is important that this team works as one, that everyone has the same end goal and are helping each other to reach it. However, in order to do this there are a few important things to consider. Decision Making This is a process that needs to involve the whole team. A particular decision may not affect you directly but by putting it to your team you may realise that the decision that you made in your own head may not be the right choice after all. Put

yourself in a team member’s shoes and think from their perspective about how your decision might change their work load or the way they work. In order to stay a strong team, it is essential to allow everyone to voice their relevant opinions. Teamwork needs to consist of communication and compromise

  • without this your team will struggle to work collaboratively. Talented Individuals Building your team is an exciting journey. It’s your chance to work with people who you can learn from. Everyone has individual talents and experiences that you can gain insight from in order to grow and work more efficiently. Surround yourself with people who share the same drive as you and you’ll soon be on your way to achieving your goals. Find talented people and give them the opportunity to flourish – a group of talented individuals can become an unbreakable team. Mutual Respect It’s essential to treat your team members with respect and to respect their talents. You can play to your strengths here and really maximise both yours and their abilities. It goes without saying that ‘treat others how you would like to be treated’ must be highly regarded within your team and followed by all in order to be successful. Conclusion No one person can do everything. Working in a team is somewhat obligatory in many instances but working well in a team is optional – the onus is on you to action this. Learning how to do this effectively and implementing all of the above amongst your colleagues is the best way to ensure that you are on your way to reaching your goals whilst creating a great work environment. Advantages Of Teamwork In College
  1. It helps learn essential social skills. Working in a team can teach you necessary social skills, such as listening and speaking. You’ll have to act

cohesively to get anything done. Additionally, teamwork experience will make you learn how to communicate information to others effectively.

  1. It enhances self-confidence. Teamwork in school and college teaches individuals that their voices are heard and valued. That helps people improve their self-esteem and enhance the working process.
  2. It diminishes bullying. Improved self-confidence will help a student to rise above the bully. Moreover, team members are more willing to support each other than other classmates. Discussing it in a student teamwork essay can be quite profound.
  3. It establishes the ground for student’s success in the future. Effective teamwork may contribute to breakthroughs outside the classroom. An early introduction to such experiences creates more opportunities for people to be productive and satisfied as a part of the group. When looking between teamwork and individual work experience, hiring companies value the former more.

Most volunteers have a great time, regardless of why they do it

Importance of Volunteerism It is so disappointing that many people within our societies do know understand or value the importance of services in the community by volunteering. Serving the society is very important in helping to solve many problems especially those that have been neglected by the government and other social programs. Volunteering to serve the community is not only beneficial to the individuals involved but it is necessary in creating better societies for all. For instance, community members may volunteer to clean up a town near them or feeder roads. This way, all members benefit by living in a clean environment which is free from illnesses related to sanitation. By cleaning the compounds surrounding them, society members help promote the health of their young ones who are always playing during which time they can eat anything on the ground which would have otherwise caused them serious infections. Community work does not always revolve around environmental work but it is equally important for the fortunate members of the society to help those who are less fortunate. Community members may volunteer to offer gifts and other services to help the less fortunate ones. For example, people may contribute goods such as clothes and food stuffs to help the street children who have no homes or take it to children’s’ homes from where they can be provided for. This way, the members of the society will have helped others live a more and better comfortable life.
