File Transfer Protocol (FTP) – is used to upload and download files from one computer to another. FTP use an FTP file server, whereas HTTP files use as a Web server. To connect to most FTP servers, you need user ID and a password. Domain Name – identifies who the site’s host is. Top- level Domain – the suffix in the domain name after the dot (such as .com or .edu) Path or subdirectory – the information after the slash indicates a particular file within the Web site. 1. Cable – uses coaxial cable. Coaxial cable is a one-way service where the television programming signals are fed by the cable provider.
  2. Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) – allows phone and data transmission to share the same line, thus eliminating the need for an additional phone line.
  3. Fiber Optic Service – uses fiber-optic lines, which are stands of optically pure glass that are as thin as a human hair. They are organized in bundles called optical cables and transmit data over longer distances through light signals.
  4. Satellite – is another way to connect to the Internet. You need a coaxial-cable satellite dish that is installed outside your home and connected to your device, the same form of cable that is used for cable TV.
  5. Wireless – allows us to share an Internet connection and print from our notebooks from any room without having to attach and detach wires.
  6. Dial-up – is a device that converts or modulates the digital signals the computer understands to the analog signals that can travel over phone lines. Online Resource ManagementSpam – unwanted junk or e-mail.  Cookies – are small text files that some Web sites automatically store on your computer’s hard drive when you visit the site.  Malware – is software that has a malicious intent (hence the prefix mal)  Adware – is software that displays sponsored advertisements in a section of your browser window or as a pop-up ad box and is considered legitimate (though sometimes annoying) means of generating revenue for those developers who do not charge for their software or information  Spyware – is an unwanted piggy program that downloads with the software you want to install from the Internet and runs in the background of your system.  Phishing – lures Internet users to reveal personal information such as credit card number or other sensitive information that could lead to identity theft.  Internet hoax – contain information that is untrue.
