Worksheet 8.5 Introduction to Equilibrium
Worksheet 8.5 Introduction to Equilibrium
We will define the equilibrium constant as the following.
For a general reaction
nA + mB <-> oC + pD
Keq = [C]o[D]p
[A]n[B]m
1. For the following reaction N2O4 <-> 2NO2, what would the equilibrium constant?
2. If you have the following reaction A + B <-> C + D where K = 200 @298K:
a. At equilibrium are there more products or reactants? Explain your reasoning.
b. What is K for the reverse reaction (C + D <-> A + B)?
At equilibrium, the concentration of products (C and D) is much greater compared to the concentration of
reactants (A and B) since K is greater than 1.
