Dust of Snow by Robert Frost
Poet has rued all his day and was not in a good mood, depresses and sorrowful. He was roaming
around a hemlock tree and a crow came, shook down fine particles of snow that were collected on
tree and this has given the poet’s heart a change of mood and hence he became happy and relaxed.
Nature has a power to heal us.
Some part of the day became pleasant.
Fire and Ice by Robert Frost
There are two theories believed by people in the world that would lead to the destruction of the
world.
He compares fire with Human desire. He finds himself very much familiar with the concept of desire
as he very well understands it.
Ice is compared to hatred by the poet. He says he is also familiar with hatred and knows what kind of
danger can arise from hatred.
This poem is a metaphor for two emotions Desire and hatred.
Hence according to the poet both these emotions should be controlled and be in limits otherwise it
would lead to the destruction of the world.
The Tiger in the Zoo by Leslie Norris
The poem contrasts the tiger in the zoo to the tiger in its natural habitat.
The paws of tiger are soft like velvet which produce no sound while moving in the limited space of
the cage in the zoo.
The tiger is silent but in rage or anger.
The tiger in cage is the victim of human cruelty.
Lurking in shadow: hiding secretly to attack on its prey which was the plump dear.
Snarling around the houses at the edge of the forest: Making angry sound while showing his white
fangs and claws.
Concrete cell: cement made cage in the zoo
He listens the last voice of the patrolling cars of the zoo authorities at night.
How to tell Wild Animals by Carolyn Wells
The poem tells us how to identify different wild animals also the poem shows us fifferent
dangerous aspects of different wild animals.
In the jungles of east ----- large and tawny or yellowish brown beast ---- Roars at you ----- Asiatic
lion
A noble wild beast, noble is used because tiger always kills its prey for hunger not for pleasure or
greed like many other wild animals.
Bengal tiger has black stripes on yellow body.
Leopard: Hide is peppered with spots ----- as soon as he has lept or jump on you ---- will be in pain
---- not stop but lep and lep again
Bear---Creature who hugs very hard --- doubts --- give you one more caress or gentle touch
Novice might nonplus: A person who doesn’t have much experience might get confuse.
Hyenas: merry smiles, weep: Crocodiles both are beast of prey or they kill other animals for
satisfying their energy needs.
Chameleon is small like Lizard ----- doesn’t have ears ---- doesn’t have wings ---- Nothing on tree---
chameleon is there.

The Ball Poem by John Berryman

The poet says I would not intrude on him because he wanted the boy to learn his first sense of responsibility and learn the meaning of loss on his own. He doesn’t offer money because he thought buying another ball is worthless.Teaches how to stand up against the miseries and sorrows of lifeIn the world full of possessions means that the world is full of materialistic things. People are driven by the urge to own something in this world and loosing something valuable is inevitable.Something which has gone can’t be replaced.Dime: MoneyMoney is external: Money can buy materialistic things in this world but it cannot buy emotions, attachment, love, childhood etc. Once these things are lost, they are lost forever and will never come back.Epistemology: Knowledge Amanda by Robin KleinSome of the habits of Amanda on which her mother used to nag on her: a. Biting nails b. Slouching shoulders c. Tiding room d. Finishing homework e. Eating chocolatesOn becoming orphan she feels the silence is golden and the freedom is sweet. If she were a mermaid: She would drift blissfully in a relaxed, emerald sea where she would be alone. If she were an orphan: Roam on streets bare feet, leaving footprints on the dust of the street. If she were a Rapunzel: She would have not care about anyone, would have lived in a tower in calm and peace and would never let her bright hair down the tower. The Trees by Adrienne RichThe forest was empty: No bird could sit, no insects could hide and sun couldn’t bury its feet in the shadow.Roots: They worked all night to disengage themselves from the cracks in the veranda floor.Leaves: Strain towards the glassTwigs: Stiff with exertionBig branches: they were trying to get out of the house through the roofWomen/ Trees have been compared to the newly discharged patients half dazed moving to the clinic doors.Winds rush to meet the trees.Moon is broken like a mirror and its pieces’ flash in the crown of the tallest oak tree.Moon appears to be broken because of the trees that have made their way out of the house to outside and hence their branches are blocking the path of the moon. These pieces can be seen flashing at the top of the tallest oak tree and hence is compared as the crown of oak tree.In her long letters she doesn’t mention the trees leaving the house. The smell of leaves and lichen like a voice reaches to her expressing desire for freedom.
