Introduction

To ensure you make excellent progress it is important that you behave professionally, just as you would in the business world. All students should make sure they do the following:

  • Attend all lessons on time ; lateness is not tolerated.
  • Come equipped to lessons , with a USB, calculator, paper and writing equipment, including pencil and ruler.
  • Do not use your phone in lessons. Phones will be confiscated if seen and will be taken by your teacher.
  • Meet all deadlines , which are clearly listed in the table below. Work submitted late cannot be fully assessed. Coursework tasks will be submitted on paper. Each piece of work you submit should be in ‘Arial’ font, size 12, justified (CTRL+J), with 1.15 spacing and must have the following:
  • Assignment title , clearly displayed at the top of the page ˗ font size 14 ˗ font style ‘Arial’ ˗ bold ˗ centrally aligned
  • Sub-headings , which clearly separate sections of your writing ˗ font size 12 ˗ font style ‘Arial’ ˗ bold
  • Appendix and references , at the end of each piece of work you submit which ˗ clearly labelled i.e. ‘Appendix 1, Appendix 2 etc...’ Before submitting any piece of work for your teacher to read (draft or final piece), you must check that you have done the following:
  • written in detail, covering all elements on the task sheet
  • read through your work thoroughly
  • checked spelling and grammar, and ensured you have used appropriate language

Task criteria (^) You will need to research a range of job roles from the large business that you used for your case study, and choose an actual job role that would be appropriate for you to apply for now or in the near future. You will need to research the business, and analyse the requirements of this job. Using this research, compile a portfolio that evidences your application for this job role and can be submitted to your peers for their review. This portfolio must comprise a set of documents that adheres to equal opportunities legislation and include: ● the job description and person specification ● the job advert with examples of where this job was placed ● a set of interview questions designed by you that are suitable for this job role and will allow a candidate to demonstrate analytical responses, and an appropriate interview feedback form ● your personal application for this job role to include a: o completed application form o personal CV o letter of application Submit your portfolio to a group of your peers for their review. Using their feedback and suggestions for improvement prepare an evaluation of the documentation you have produced. You will now proceed to the selection interviews. You will need to take part in at least two interviews, taking on on the role of both interviewer and interviewee. You will need to demonstrate analytical questioning and answering skills in your interviews. These interviews will be observed by assessors or other persons who will provide feedback on your performance. For both roles, you will be given feedback on your communication and employability skills demonstrated in the interview situations. You will now need to reflect on the recruitment and selection process, using the feedback given. Prepare an evaluation of how well the documents prepared and your participation in the interview activities supported the process for a job offer. After your participation in the recruitment and selection process you now need to carry out a self-critique; evaluating what went well, where there is room for improvement, how this can be achieved and why it is important to do so. You have been asked to document this in a reflective report that

measures your individual performance against best practice. Using your feedback from your performance both as an interviewer and as an interviewee identify the skills shown in your performances. Prepare a personal skills development plan that analyses how developing these skills will support the development of your employability skills in future interview situations. Conclude your report with an evaluation that draws reasoned conclusions as to how developing these skills will support your future career. Evidence Required ● a portfolio of recruitment and selection documents ● a reflective report ● feedback from peers, assessors and others ● witness testimonies of the interviews that you took part in ● SWOT analysis ● Skills Development Plan Success criteria Criteria reference To achieve the criteria you must show that you are able to: C.D3 Evaluate how well the recruitment and selection process complied with best practice, drawing reasoned conclusions as to how it will support your future career. B.D Evaluate how well the documents prepared and participation in the interview activities supported the process for a job offer. B.M In recruitment interviews demonstrate analytical responses and questioning to allow assessment of skills and knowledge C.M3 Analyse the results of the process and how your skills development will contribute to your future success. B.P4 Participate in the selection interviews, as an interviewer and interviewee. B.P3 Prepare appropriate documentation for use in selection and recruitment activities. C.P5 Complete a SWOT analysis on your performance in role in the interviewing activities. C.P6 Prepare a personal skills development plan for future interview situations. For distinction standard , learners will make an individual detailed evaluation of the documents used. The report will reach a reasoned conclusion on whether or not the interview documents were effective and if they fully supported the interview activity. It will also include a balanced evaluation, highlighting how well the processes were related to professional best practice. Learners will offer a detailed conclusion as to how this will support career progression.

o Person specification o Application form o Personal CV o Letter of application

2. Describe the interview skills you need to demonstrate and how you could do this o Communication skills o Body language and listening skills o Professional approach eg. dress o Formal language

Section 2

Role of interviewer

B.P4 Participate in the selection interviews, as an interviewer and interviewee. B.P3 Prepare appropriate documentation for use in selection and recruitment activities. For this section, you need to take the role of the interviewer. You will be interviewing another member of the class and will be assessed on your approach. You need to design the interview questions you will ask your partner based on a customer service role.

1. Before you create your questions, describe what a good interview would look like for your ‘organisation’, and what good questioning is like. o Clearly communicated questions o Repeated if necessary o Short enough to be able to understand the question but long enough to give a good answer o Asked in a way that supports the candidate to give their best answer 2. Explain why the use of effective questioning techniques is important. o Start with general questions about the person to make them more settled o Why is it important to use a combination of open and closed questions? 3. Design an interview feedback form where you can record your candidate’s answers alongside the question you ask. Question Interview notes Score / Why are you interested in this job? Clear reason given for wanting to work in customer service

Make sure you have a 'total' column to calculate the overall score o Why is it useful to have an interview feedback form?

4. How would you change the questions/ interview style / feedback form for a more senior role? o What is a peer group? Is there likely to be more than one interviewer?
