for the domain if it is not already set as the default.
Once you are in the LON-CAPA system, you should be taken to the Roles Screen that shows
each LON-CAPA course in which you are enrolled. Select the MA 16020 course, which will take
you to the course main page.
To view the contents of the course, select the Contents tab at the top. This will direct you to
the course contents.
CONTENTS LAYOUT
Read and Use regularly: Entering Math Expressions LON-CAPA.pdf It will help you
quickly understand exactly how to enter expressions into LON-CAPA answer boxes. There is a
pop-up box that will appear when entering answers. However, that is a only a guide to what
your answer looks like, the syntax you are using can still be incorrect. Learning that syntax
quickly will help you immediately to adjust to LON-CAPA. The Entering Math Expressions
LON-CAPA.pdf document will help you greatly.
There several folders in the Contents section.
1. HW0: Practice Entering Math in LON-CAPA In HW0 you will find problems to
help you practice how to enter math expressions in LON-CAPA. These problems are
graded, and you are highly encouraged to do them FIRST because it will save you a lot
of time and trouble later on when you do your other homework.
2. HWR and Review of Basic Integration(Lesson R) This folder contains etext with
embedded videos to help you remember and includes the HWR assignment, which is the
first Lesson of the semester. As the title implies, these are review problems you should be
able to complete easily. If that is not the case for you, then you will need to get lots of
help the very first week of classes.
3. Integration by Substitution(Lessons 1 & 2): This folder will contain the video lec-
tures(my best stuff), some textbook information and examples, and the 2 HW folders, and
each HW folder will contain the individual homework assignments problems. The video
lectures are in rows, with text and examples between and after the rows of videos. You
can click on the link within the folder to see the contents. You should do a combination of
watching the videos(THE BEST THING) and reading the text, but whatever works the
best for you to learn the material is fine. The videos are in the order of introducing the
basic idea of the topic with an example or two, then more examples with ideas, methods,
hints, etc. It is highly recommended that you watch the videos in full-screen mode.
4. Homework Folders: Each of the subfolders contains the homework problems for the
corresponding homework assignment. For example, the subfolder “HWR” contains all the
homework problems for HWR. To work on a problem, select that particular problem. You
can navigate between problems using the arrows at the top of the LON-CAPA screen.
Unless noted specifically, all homework problems will have 10 attempts. So

flailing at the answer is highly discouraged and bad for your learning, treat each attempt as if you were entering an exam answer that is your final submission. If you have any questions about the homework, please post them to the Piazza Discussion Board(accessed through Blackboard).

Other content/homework folders will be gradually added all semester.

Printing Homework

It is easy to print out a homework assignment from LON-CAPA. Here are the steps. I will use HW1 as an example.

  1. Click on the folder “HW1”
  2. Click on the first problem (in fact any one of them would be fine).
  3. Click on “Print” in the upper right corner.
  4. Select the third radio button, “Selected Problems from folder HW1.”
  5. Click on “Next.”
  6. Click on “Next” again.
  7. Enjoy your pdf! If there is an error message, try to print again.
