The Principles of Play should be considered when

we are delivering Rugby training. This helps make

sure our training sessions have the correct Focus.

Passing Technique

1 - Start with correct hand placement on Ball (The side you are

passing = back of ball. Eg right hand pass= right hand at back of

ball and left hand at front.

2 - Hold ball around hip height with passing arm Elbow high.

3 - Push through the ball whilst rotating hands to give ball forward

momentum and Spin.

4 - Hands follow through to Target. You should be looking through

your hands at the flight path of the ball.

High Ball Technique

When jumping to take a high ball we need to time our jump so

that we meet the ball at the highest point of our jump. When you

jump 1- Hands should be above head reaching for the ball,

Thumbs together 2- Turn your body sideways,( if jumping off your

right leg turn so your left knee is facing the opposition. Do the

opposite for left leg) 3- Catch the ball above your Head with both

hands and as you come down to land bring the ball into your

chest.

Catching a Pass

When catching a pass, you should have hands out reaching

towards the ball. As the ball gets close to your hands, Move your

hands around the ball in a way in which you want to pass it. This

would be subtly different for a spin pass or push pass. Try not to

bring the ball in to your chest. You should catch the ball out

infront of you so you can transfer it quickly.

NB: The following 3 slides have

passing/catching sessions to

supplement with Rugby. The

individual should perform these as

additional sessions
