Visualizing wealth disparity through rice
Today in class, we visualized wealth disparity using a tangible item like rice, rice provides a
concrete and relatable representation of an abstract concept. Rice's universality makes it
accessible to all, regardless of background, enabling individuals to grasp the vast differences in
wealth distribution. This visualization humanizes the data, fostering empathy by translating
complex economic disparities into something tangible. As a result, it raises awareness about the
stark realities of wealth inequality, while also motivating individuals to critically examine
systemic issues and advocate for change, making the pursuit of economic justice more immediate
and personal. This ties in with Dyson's motto that, "our business is a better world," as it sets a
potential issue in society we should tackle or strive to tackle in order to make our world a better
place.
