EXPECTANCY

It is the probability assigned by the individual

that a given level of achieved task performanc

e will lead to various work outcomes

Performance–Reward Relationship

INSTRUMENTALITY

 Vroom posits that motivation (M),

expectancy (E), instrumentality (I ),

and valence (V) are related to one

another by the equation:

M = (E) × (I) × (V)

MOTIVATION EQUATION

It deals with individual’s internal motivation

system, which is difficult to predict.

It does not consider other external factors.

It doesn’t specify exactly which rewards will

motivate particular groups of workers.
