WHAT IS 3D PRINTING?

  • 3D printing is the process of producing a virtual object designed in 3D from materials such as polymer, composite, resin, by heat or chemical treatment. Devices that perform this process are called three-dimensional printers.

PAST AND CURRENT TECHNOLOGIES AVAILABLE FOR 3D PRINTING

  • The first 3D printer technology emerged in 1984 by Charless Hull. With the establishment of the first 3D printer company called 3D Systems in 1986, a new industry was born. In the 90s, this technology advanced rapidly, and the first color printing was taken in America. 3D printers reached our homes with the RepRap project, which started in 2005 and released the first open source code printers capable of prototyping their own parts in 2007.

3D PRINTING TECHNOLOGIES AN OVERVIEW

  • Stereolithography (SLA)
  • Digital Light Processing (DLP)
  • Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM)
  • Selective Laser Sintering (SLS)
  • Selective Laser Melting (SLM)
  • Electronic Beam Melting (EBM)
  • Laminated Object Manufacturing (LOM)

TYPES OF MATERIALS USED IN 3D PRINTING

  • PLASTIC
  • POWDERS
  • RESINS
  • METAL
  • CARBON FIBER
  • GRAPHITE AND GRAPHENE
  • NITINOL
  • PAPER

APPLİCATİON OF 3D PRİNTİNG İN CİVİL ENGİNEERİNG 3D Printing in Civil Engineering can be used to create construction components or to print the entire building. It refers to various technologies that use 3D printing as a core fabric method for fabricated building or construction components. Alternate terms such as Additive construction, Autonomous robotic construction system (ARCS), Large additive manufacturing(LSAM), Freeform construction are used to describe 3D printing.

FUTURE OF 3D PRINTING

  • 3D printing is evolving into something much more dynamic.
  • Instead of serving the consumer, 3D printing serves the common good, and in ways most people didn't understand when the technology was introduced. From providing cheaper healthcare to the sick to building homes for the homeless, the possible uses of 3D printing will now be endless.
