With a population of approximately 250,000,
Ghent is the fourth largest city in Belgium. Ghent’s
beautiful flowers, which are sold worldwide, are
reflective of why the city is known as the flower
city of Belgium. The streets of Ghent are still
adorned with attractive medieval architecture;
moreover, it is a city of many museums.
Ghent University (UGent) was founded in 1817 as a
Latin- speaking state university. In 1930, UGent
became the first Dutch-speaking university- French
having been the academic language up to that point.
Today, Ghent University is one of the major Belgian
universities with over 41,000 students, and 11
faculties comprising 117 faculty departments. Baruch
students will take courses in the Faculty of
Economics and Business at UGent.
