In the past, women were seen as less important than men. They weren't allowed to take part in social or political life. Their main job was to take care of the home. Up until the 19th century, people thought women were just servants in their husbands' homes. Philosophers like Rousseau, who didn't get married, said women couldn’t be part of politics or society. But
times have changed, and old ideas are no longer the same. One old saying said, “The dignity of woman comes from being unknown to the world — her glory is the respect of her husband; her happiness is the happiness of her children.”Recently, women have taken a bigger role in life. In several fields, they have done better than men. In sports, in learning, in the arts, in jobs and industries, they have shown great honesty and efficiency. They have done well as teachers and nurses. A famous poet from two centuries ago complained, “Women known for their courage, political skills, or learning have left their duties to take over what men have.” This is what women are doing today.There is hardly any area where women are not competing with men. In many jobs, outdoors, in law, they ask for equal rights. In business, trade, industry, in professional fields, politics, government, scientific research, and in arts and writing, women are active everywhere. They are becoming police officers and military personnel. They are working as salesgirls, flight attendants, clerks, and typists. They are replacing men in roles like personal secretaries. As time passes, we are getting used to seeing women working alongside men — riding, driving, flying, playing, even fighting. Even in Pakistan, there are women athletes, writers, leaders,
