Factors that Affect Performance

CPU, motherboard, RAM and storage devices affect the overall performance of a

computer because all of these components must interact as a system, and a system is

only as efficient as its weakest component.

Hardware

Recognizing Input/Output Devices Pg 60

Peripheral devices add functionality to the computer, and can generally be classified as input

devices, or output devices. Input or output (I/O) devices enable communication between the user

and the computer.

Complete the table below on input/output devices

  1. Categorize the following devices by placing an X in the Input or/and Output column.
  2. Mark which devices are helpful for people with vision problems.

Understanding How it Works Together

ROM-BIOS chips are responsible for starting your computer, checking system memory,

and loading the operating system

loads the operating system from the hard drive

the operating system is loaded into RAM

When the computer loads the operating system, it passes control over to it

Software application programs are stored on the hard disk drive

When you start an application, the computer loads a copy of the program’s instructions

into RAM

  1.
