Written Assignment Unit 4 Martin Carrillo Business Administration | University of the People ENVS 1301-01: Introduction to Environmental Sciences Instructor: Kingsley Uzoma December 7th, 2022
a. What are the most considerable impacts you make? I feel as if I live a life with not many impacts, but the ones I do impact the environment with are some of the most harmful I believe. I mean I don’t use any form of transportation I usually walk, and if I have to go far distances, I use my bicycle and in the dire need of actually traveling long distances I do use a car, but that happens maybe ten times a year. I have everything at my disposal around me. Then I try to actively not waste water, I don’t use any form of AC or heater, my electricity consumption is quite low and where I come from the energy created for my electricity comes from hydropower. The only big impact I feel as if I am guilty of committing is the use of nonorganic products and mainly plastic. The idea of a sustainable environment is to recycle materials between us and the environment, but with plastics, I am mainly allowing consumerism to take control of my life and delay the ability for the environment to take its natural course. Plastic generates a lot of carbon emissions and even worse the residue it leaves behind after it starts decomposing. The microplastics it generates and how they affect our health, and how in the future we will be seen as the generation of plastic because of how much we used in our daily lives. It is horrible to think that such an amazing invention is so detrimental to the environment.
