Q 1:
The least quantity or sum of wealth which is in excess from the basic needs, retained by
an individual either male or female for one lunar year is termed as "Nisab". This
possession obligates the individual to pay Zakat. This minimum amount varies in each
category of wealth in the context of Islamic fiqh.
Q 2:
An individual cannot pay zakat to his/her dependents such as wife, children, parents,
grand children, grandparents) however other than these dependents it is ideal to give
zakat to relatives.
Q 3:
The holy Qur'an specifies eight (8) purposes for which the amount of zakat can be used.
1) Poor
2) (Masakin): Needy
3) (Al-'Amilin): Individuals or groups who are employed to the collection, distribution,
and administration of Zakat
4) (Mu'allafat-al-Qulub)
5) (Fi-al-Riqab) Freeing of those in bondage
6) (Al-Gharimin): Those in debt
7) (Fi-sabil-Allah) in the cause of Allah
8) (Ibn-al-Sabil): The wanderer, Needy traveler
