Rafael Boileau 1B Expression écrite Brexit I learnt a lot of things about the divisions in the UK, in the GB and more precisely in England
. First of all, there are different cultures in those countries, there are stereotypes about Scotland or Ireland for example. We have seen a map in class and this map shows all of stereotypes , I learnt that the stereotypes in Scotland were the kilt, whisky, celtic music or the Loch Ness Monster so I guess those stereotypes are one of the causes of those divisions. Those countries are really divided between themselves because some are for Brexit and some are against Brexit, for example, Scotland was against Brexit and now the country wants to leave the United Kingdom. In England, people that live in London feel Londoners and not British, so this is a division. There are social divisions, cultural divisions and economic divisions because in the North of England people are very poor whereas in the South people are more rich and they live easily. A lot of discriminations exist in UK: racism, sexism, age, and accentism, there are dozens of accents in Britain and some of these accents are rejected by the society, for example, a girl who lives in Yorkshire changed her accent to enter in the society but she says that was the worst decision of her life because she lost her identity and there is a problem in the society people may have changed his accent to be accepted in the society, it’s a big discrimination and there are a lot of discriminations like this one. To conclude this part I can say the British society is so divided. The reasons why people voted for or against Brexit are very simple: immigration and sovereignty, people wanted to go away Europe are against immigration and for sovereignty, they are often racist and conservative and people wanted to stay in Europe are for the immigration and against sovereignty, they wanted to be multicultural and live together. The older persons are mainly for Brexit whereas the younger persons are against Brexit, for sure there are certainly other reasons but it’s too long to explain this in a few lines. My opinion about Brexit is simple, if I had voted, I would have voted against because I think Brexit is a bad thing. First of all, the UK is outside the UK now and they have to fend for themselves and in many situations they are in difficulties because they are alone, for example the tourism is complicated because it is necessary to have a passport, for the teamsters it’s more complicated to cross the border. We have seen this problem with the border between the 2 Irelands. It’s a shame that the UK is isolating themselves, this creates more and more divisions in those countries and that’s really bad.
