Word orders:
1. SUBJECT + VERB + OBJECT
Globalization has influenced food consumption
2. SUBJECT + VERB + ADJECTIVE + PROPOSITIONAL PHRASE
Food has always been very important for Italian families
3. LINKER + SUBJECT + VERB + OBJECT + PROPOSITIONAL PHRASE
In conclusion, globalization has had a significant influence on international eating habits
NB:
- Adverbs integrate the meaning of the verb and they’re collocated between SUBJECT AND VERB;
- Verbs of movement need a destination first
- Verbs like happen need a time first and the you add the other elements
- Time is indicated from detail to general
- After an adjective you use the infinitive form
- they= all people used genderless with nouns or everybody/everyone/someone
- “No way” + present continuous -> to be certain that a future action won’t happen

PARAGRAPHING: - leave a double interline in-between paragraphs
- clear distinction between INTRODUCTION – BODY – CONCLUSION
STYLE : - use extended forms
- use impersonal construction/ passive forms
- use expressions of opinion
- more noun phrases
- no slang/ idioms/ phrasal verbs
- use topic sentences to introduce what the paragraph is about
- use cleft sentences (cut sentences) and discourse markers (p. 145)

 PLAN:

  • INTRODUCTION : should already reveal what you think about, you should write about the background and be specific/logical. you have to underline the aim of the essay and give an outline or map of the essay (first, next, finally…)
  • BODY : it maintains your view in indirect terms bringing on examples and going full into detail; but also it refutes the opposite point of view bringing on the other people point of view and explaining why this is less valid using (many people say/ it is often claimed/ it is often said… however …)
  • CONCLUSION : quickly sum up what the essay is about in a few lines + expressing why your view is valid
