How dare you?
The last article I read left me a bit disappointed. It says that teenagers
nowadays have no teen role models which in my opinion isn’t true. Greta
Thunberg is in fact my inspirational teenager.
In 2018, when she was only 15, Greta missed school to sit outside the
Swedish parliament. She protested for almost three weeks before the
elections in order to pressure the government to meet carbon emissions
targets. She was holding a sign saying "School Strike for Climate".
Greta founded a movement known as Fridays for Future and after the
elections she continued to skip classes on Fridays to strike. Her actions
inspired so many teenagers all over the world that by december 2018
more than 20,000 students had joined her by taking to the streets. In
2019 Greta gave her most famous speech. "You all come to us young
people for hope. How dare you? You have stolen my dreams and my
childhood with your empty words." she said to the world leaders because
they weren’t doing anything about climate change.
Greta is a role model because she decided to stand up for a cause she
really cared about. She opened the eyes of those who didn’t want to see
the truth. She never stopped protesting, even though people criticized
her or didn’t take her seriously, she continued on her way.
The point is that, as we know, climate change is a real problem and we
need to take action. We need to be like Greta.
