GENERAL ELECTION

first-past-the-post  Is an analogy to horse racing: the winner of the race is the first to pass a designed point (the “post” or finish line2 on the track  All the other runners lose and the winner takes all  It is an electoral system used to elect MPs to parliament as well as to decide the results of some local government elections.  Voters in single constituencies opt for one of the candidates listed on the ballot paper and the candidate with the largest number of votes wins the seat in Parliament. All other votes are disregarded  The party that has the majority of the seats will form the Parliament  Candidates are elected but not the Prime Minister He/She is the leader of the Party that has the majority on the Parliament It is the appointed by the Monarch
