- Imaginary situations in the present:
Esempio:
If I were rich, I would live in a huge house.
- Improbable events in the future:
Esempio:
If he left home earlier, he would never be late for work
We use the Paste Simple in the if clause and would/wouldn’t in the clause
describing the result -> (usiamo Paste Simple nella clausola if e vorrei/non
lo farei nella clausola che descrive il risultato)
We put a comma at the end of the if clause if it comes first in the
sentence -> (mettiamo una virgola alla fine della clausola if se viene prima
nella frase)
IF + PAST SIMPLE

WOULD/WOULDN’T + INFINITIVE
(RESULT)
She’D APPLY for this job
WOULD/WOULDN’T + INIFINITIVE

IF + PAST SIMPLE

In second contidional sentences we use was or were after
I, he, she and it. Were is more formal
If she WERE rich, she’d buy a boat.
If she was rich, she’d buy a boat.
Remember to use were in if I were you:
IF I WERE YOU, I would tell him the truth.
In place of if, we can use other conjunctions, for example when, unless, as
soon as.
