Exercise 5 – Letter/Email NAME: LANGUAGE – Score __ / 8 CHECKLIST No A Little Average A Lot ACTION PLAN FOR NEXT TEST I divided the text into 3 paragraphs, one for each bullet point I organised the sequence of paragraphs using a logical order I used informal linkers to connect parts of the text (e.g. what’s more, on top of that, also/first of all, second, lastly, etc.) I used the right quantity (1 or 2) of idiomatic expressions (e.g. take care, can’t wait to hear from you, etc.) I used expressions that made the text more enjoyable to read (e.g. Guess what!, You will never believe what happened to me!, etc.) I used synonyms and avoided repetitions I used appropriate and specific words (e.g. tasty, attractive, pleasant). I avoided generic words (e.g. nice, good, bad, ok) I alternated long and short sentences I used clear language and expression I used correct grammar structures
Exercise 5 – Letter/Email CONTENT – Score __ / 8 CHECKLIST No A Little Average A Lot ACTION PLAN FOR NEXT TEST I read and understood well the question I wrote about 40-60 words per bullet point I quickly planned the content of the text before I started writing I developed the ideas given in the bullet points (e.g. used examples, added information, gave details, described) I only wrote realistic and relevant content and avoided digressions (slowly moving to a different topic/content) I used an informal style/register, perfect for a friend (e.g. used contractions/informal expressions/simple words) I included an engaging opening section (e.g. using a memory) and an engaging ending (e.g. made an appointment to meet soon) In every section, I used interactive expressions directed to my friend, not to make the letter sound like a story (e.g. I’m sure you know that…) The letter sounds like I am writing to a real friend I wrote an appropriate number of words (between 150 and 200)
Exercise 6 - Article/Report/Review CONTENT – Score __ / 8 CHECKLIST No A Little Average A Lot ACTION PLAN FOR NEXT TEST I read and understood well the question I wrote the appropriate number of words: 20 - 30 words for introduction and conclusion 50 - 80 words for the 2 middle paragraphs I quickly planned the content of the text before I started writing I developed the ideas given in the question (e.g. used examples, added information, gave details, described) I only wrote realistic and relevant content and avoided digressions (slowly moving to a different topic/content) I used an appropriate style/register for the type of text (article and review: not too formal / report: very formal) I included an appropriate/ engaging introduction and an appropriate/useful conclusion (e.g. hope for future/recommend.) I did not contradict myself and it is very clear what my point of view is (e.g. in favour/against/in the middle) I wrote an appropriate number of words (between 150 and 200) ARTICLE ONLY – I included my opinion at the end (if both points of view discussed) / at the start (if only one point of view discussed) REVIEW ONLY – I included a brief description of what I reviewed REPORT ONLY – I avoided a personal tone (e.g. used “we” instead of “I”)
Exercise 4 – Summary NAME: LANGUAGE – Score __ / 8 CHECKLIST No A Little Average A Lot ACTION PLAN FOR NEXT TEST I tried to include more (2-3) points of content in the same sentence (e.g. beside/on top of/as well as helping the environment, it is also…) I organised the summary using a logical order I used linkers to connect parts of the text (e.g. what’s more, on top of, also/first of all, second, lastly, etc.) I used my own words as much as possible (e.g. did not copy whole sentences and expressions from the original text / used synonyms) I used clear language and expression I used correct grammar structures
