Much Ado About Nothing is a
commedic play by William
Shakespeare to have been written
betwenn 1598-1999,as he was
approcching the middle of his carrer.
This tale is generaly considered one of
Shakespeare’s best comedies. Like As
You Like It and Twelft Night,Much Ado
Abouth Nothing is a joyful comedy
that ends with multiple marriages and
no deaths.
Hero,a young serious lady, lives with her father Leonato and her lively
young cousin Beatrice,in the father’s place in Messina.Beatrice is full
of fun and witty, unlike the sky Hero. One day, some army officers
come to visit Leonato and his palace. They are old friends of
his:Pedro, the Prince of Aragon,Benedick and Claudio. The last fall in
love with Hero and plan to get married, but the villainous Don John
slanders Hero with false evidence.
The wedding is ruined and Hero faints. Her family soon suspect
slander and decide to pretend that Hero died from shock. Don
John’s evil plan is soon revealed and Claudio mourns Hero’s death.
Eventually, she is revealed to be alive and the marriage goes ahead
as planned. In the play’s closing moments, it is reported that Don
John has been captured for his crime.
The story in settled in Messina, a city in the island of Sicily in
southern Italy, sometimes in the 16th century.
It was written between 1598 and 1599.
The historical context is not clear because the setting of the story
probably is not real.
Shakespeare introduces
spanish characters
because during this years
in Sicily there was the
spanish domination.
Beatrice: She is a” pleasant-spirited lady” with a very sharp
tongue. She is generous and loving, but like Benedick, continually
nocks othee people with elaborately tooled jokes and puns.
Don Pedro : An important nobleman from Aragon, sometimes
referred to as “Prince”. He is a long time friends of Leonato,
and she also close to the soldiers who have been fighting
under him. He is generous, courteous and lovely to his friend.
Claudio : A young soldier who has won great fighting
under Don Pedro during the recent wars. He is falls in
love with Hero.
Unsula and Margaret : Margaret is the serving
woman of Hero, who unwittngly helps Borachio and
Don John. She is lower class and unlike Unsula.
Similes :when a direct comparison is made (with 'as', 'than' or 'like').
Benedick says he "was duller than a great thaw", while Borachio
compares fashion-conscious men to soldiers and priests. These ideas
allow us our own interpretations.
Shakespeare uses a lot of rhetorical devices in Much Ado About
Nothing. Is very important to remember the main,
for example:Imagery,Similes,Personification and Metaphors.
Imagery: is when we might talk about one
thing in terms of another. Imagery substitutes
one thing for another in three main ways.
