PREFIXES = group of letters at the begging of a word modify its meaning
pre-, post-, inter-
before-, after-, between-
SUFFIXES = group of letters at the end of a word which modify the meaning
-tion, - ment, -ness

Using affixes you can create a whole ‘family’ of words from one root word.
You can quickly increase the range and volume of your vocabulary.
Understanding the root plus prefix or suffix  you can quickly work out the meaning of  the unknown word.
