I. REFLECT ON THE EFFECTIVENESS OF RESEARCH

METHODS APPLIED FOR MEETING OBJECTIVES OF THE

COMPUTING RESEARCH PROJECT (P6)

1. Research proposal

1.1 Title:

Factors influencing on online Shopping app usage among Vietnamese’ customers

1.2 Background

  • The invention of internet has changed the way businesses runs all over the world (Adnan, 2014). For ever since, the internet has growing rapidly throughout the last decade, following up with multiple new things such as e-commerce, social media, G-mail and so on. Thanks to the Internet, with a simple click, user can connect with other people from all around the world. The people use the internet for many reasons such as searching product information, evaluate price and quality, choose services, and transfer payments (Moshref et al. 2012).
  • The first World Wide Web server and browser, which created by Tim Berners-Lee in 1989, was first opened in 1991. Following up is the Internet Banking features, developed and emerged in 1994. Either NetMarket or Internet Shopping Network conducted the first secure online retail transaction in 1994. Immediately after, in 1995, eBay and Amazon.com each started their respective online retail platforms. These events have marked a new era for technology, for specific is online shopping and change human’s habit of purchasing things afterwards
  • The internet has emerged as a vital tool for communication and online shopping in a number of technologically advanced nations. In addition to the popularity of internet, the growth of online shopping business is increasing every year (Ariff et al. 2013). There has been a move towards online shopping because of different online factors including convenience, ease of use, low cost, time saving, various online products and brands, with fast delivery as compared to shopping physically (Adnan, 2014). Buyers and consumers are connected and service without the limitation of time and place. Online shopping is the third most common use of internet after web surfing and email uses (Yoruk et al. 2011)
  • Online shopping behavior consists of buying process of products and services through internet (Moshref et al. 2012). The process of purchasing online products is also similar to physical shopping. The whole process includes 5 steps. First, the user will have to identifies their needs for the product or service. Then, using shopping online app or social media commerce, they will search for the information. After gathering product information, the consumer evaluates the product with other available options selecting an item according to his/her requirement and criteria making transaction for selected products and gets post purchase experience (Kotler, P. 2000). Online shopping behavior relates to customer’s psychological state regarding the accomplishment of online buying (Li & Zhang, 2002).

1.3 Research Method

  • There are 2 types of research method, which are qualitative and quantitative method. In this scenario, quantitative method will be applied. This is because that in the research, in order to conduct a final result, we have to get a large sample of data and using quantitative research will save a lot of effort. Moreover, this method is also inexpensive, as in my intention I will use online survey tools to create a survey and send it to other people using email. Some of the tools that are widely used including SurveySparrow, TypeForm, Hubspot and so on. In this case, I will use Google Form as I have been familiar with it. Google Form provide user with different types of question such as general, tag, choice, etc. The best thing I love about Google Form is that it will automatically generate statistic based on the result using graphs. The statistic will be updated every time a new answer is send by the interviewees 1.4 Literature Review
  • With the rapid developing of technology, especially the Internet, online shopping start to become a new shopping trend around the world and among the Vietnamese. Different factors have different impact on customer’s shopping behavior. In order to see why consumer are changing from physical shopping to online shopping, this essay will focus on analyze the effect of each factor on customer behavior.
  • Since I am going to apply quantitative method for this research, I will create an online survey using Google Form. This survey will be created and distributed among 100 respondents by e-mail. The survey will include questions with hypothesis in order to collect the amount of data that is available for the research. After the data is collected and analyzed, the final result will be conducted. 1.5 Research Question RQ1: What are the possible factors that influence user on using online shopping app RQ2: What are the relationships among these factors? RQ3: Which factors have the most significant effects on customers' usage of online shopping app? 1.6 Research Objectives
  • Ascertain customers’ level of awareness of online shopping and its benefits;
  • Examine the factors prompting the use of online shopping app by customers;
  • Find out the relationship of those factors
  • Find out which factors have the most significant impact on customer’s usage of online shopping app
  • Determine if user satisfied with shopping online app 1.7 Research hypothesis H1: Social influence has significant positive effects on System Quality H2: Social influence has significant positive effects on WOM
  1. 9 Research Process
  • Identify research topic
  • Creating general plan, schedule for the research, objectives and milestones need to be achieved
  • Conduct secondary research to get basic knowledge about the field that the topic aims to, for specific online shopping
  • Prepare question and forms in order to conduct primary research
  • Collect primary data using research methods such as quantitative or qualitative. The data can be collected using online survey, interviews and so on
  • Collect the data from the survey
  • Analyze data, generate statistic and come to final result
  • Writing report based on the result
  1. Reflection
  • In this research, I conduct both primary research and secondary research. For primary research, I used the quantitative method to collect data through an online survey. For secondary data, I collect from other’s researcher. Some of the research that I have used and quoted in my research including:
  • Online shopping behavior (Hashim,2015)
  • Primary Sources of Data and Secondary Sources of Data (Ajayi, 2017)
  • An Analysis of the Factors Affecting Online Purchasing Behavior of Pakistani Consumers (Adnan, 2014)
  • An Analysis of Factors Affecting on Online Shopping Behavior of Consumers (Moshref et al,
  • I will analyze the advantages and well as disadvantages from all research methods I have used Benefits Drawbacks Quantitative - You have access to a bigger sample. With a quantitative survey, a significantly larger study that includes more participants can be conducted. Naturally, you'll be able to extrapolate your findings with better accuracy to a larger population.
  • It involves a lot fewer variables. The information you're gathering is frequently "close-ended," which implies that respondents are frequently selecting binary options like yes/no. And there is no space for disagreement when it comes to delving into the results. A particular percentage of people follow one path,
  • Results from this study approach are dependent on numerical responses, so you gain a little less understanding of the ideas, motives, and drivers in your group. You're missing a crucial element: context. This is the cost must be paid by the efficiency of quantitative research
  • A quantitative method requires pre-determined answers, and occasionally a participant's thoughts, feelings, or actions may not be included in the list. Your lack of choices may cause them to select an option that doesn't truly express how

whereas a different percentage follows another.

  • You can enter the automation world with quantitative data collection. You can simply use digital or mobile surveys if you don't require a real researcher to assist you. These have the capacity to conduct thousands of interviews simultaneously across numerous nations. they feel, masking their true response. Online survey - Online surveys take, on average, two thirds less time to complete than traditional research methods. You don't have to wait for paper questionnaires to be returned because information is being gathered automatically; rather, responses are given virtually instantly.
  • Your research expenditures will be reduced by using online questionnaires. You won't have to spend time or resources entering the data into a database, which will save you money on mailing. The findings are always available and responses are processed automatically.
  • The online survey's results are available for analysis at any time. View results instantly so you can take immediate action. You can also share your results with anybody, generate graphs for reporting, and export data for more in- depth research.
  • Depending on the response to a previous question, the order of the questions in an online survey can be modified or questions might be skipped entirely. In this manner, a survey can be customized as each respondent completes it.
  • Customers are more inclined to skip questions and give robotic responses in surveys that are lengthy, difficult, or complex in order to finish the survey.
  • People are frequently persuaded to participate in surveys in exchange for rewards. These two situations have the potential to produce unreliable answers and biased outcomes.
  • Online survey response bias is a different issue that might result in false information. People frequently respond in a particular way for a variety of reasons, including the fear of being judged, their financial condition, and others. Secondary - Accessing secondary data sources is relatively simple. The way secondary research is done has altered because to the Internet. On the Internet, you can access a variety of research without making a purchase.
  • Most secondary sources can be accessed for free or for very minimal cost. It saves you time and effort in addition to money. Secondary research enables you to obtain
  • Due to the fact that secondary data was gathered in the past for a different purpose, it is not specific to the needs of the researcher. Because of this, the secondary data may not be trustworthy for your current requirements.
  • Secondary data might not be of high quality. Particularly if you obtain the data via the Internet, the
  1. How the research process goes
  • After considering all things needed for the project, I started to work on each element. I try to arrange all process in a logical path so that when I executed, there will be no failure such as doing step 2 while step 1 have not been finished
  • Because each step was meticulously planned, it has meaning and helps us get to our goal as quickly as possible.
  • Every week during the research project, the strategy was revised in order to make it simpler and remove steps that weren't necessary and didn't advance the objective.
  • There is a review after each step is done to check whether all the milestones meet their requirements
  • The project plan is created in the first phase of conducting the research. All step is listed, what is the milestones is to be achieved in order to conducted a successful project. Whenever a step is finished, I will mark on the project plan. The project plan will be reviewed every week to keep update on things going on, is there anything need to change or not. If there are any problems during the research that need more time, effort or even changing the research direction, that whole part of the research also needs to be reconsider. Changes will be applied in necessary scenario.
  1. Tutor’s help
  • Because this is our very first time of conducting research, we do meet a lot of difficulties. Therefore, we have a tutor, which is also our teacher helping us during the process of conducting the research. Since he has achieved PhD for 5 years and have experience of writing many research before, he was able to help us in many parts of the project such as writing research proposal, performing secondary research, analyzing data using SPSS model and so on.
  • When we get stopped at a certain phase, we frequently ask how to proceed, and he will clarify what to do so that we can understand it. Therefore, make it simpler for us to carry out the research study. He required us to meet at least 1 time a week to report him what we have done in our research and what we intend to carry on in the next part. If students have problems during the progress, they can ask him directly or sending him an email.
  1. Choosing participants
  • All respondents from all age groups are welcome because we need a wide range of viewpoints on how factors influence user habit in online shopping. Consumer can participate in our online survey no matter their occupation or degree. Even if customer have never done online shopping, they still can participate in the survey, but their answer will not be written down to the result since it is not valuable and reliable for our research.
  • Social media is one of the finest ways for us to share the link to our survey's Google Form since it spreads those forms quickly and allows us to quickly reach a big number of responders. We also send it directly to our friends or relative using social media or email.
  1. Present the research result
  • In this research, I will analyze the data using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). Software for the analysis of statistical data is available under the names IBM SPSS Statistics and SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences). Data analysis for descriptive and bivariate statistics, numerical outcome forecasts, and predictions for group identification are all provided by SPSS. Additionally, the software offers graphing, direct marketing, and data transformation functions.
  • With SPSS, a wide range of data types can be evaluated. Survey results, client databases from businesses, Google Analytics, the findings of scientific study, and server log files are examples of common sources. Almost all formats of structured data, as well as many different types of data, are supported by SPSS for analysis and customization. Spreadsheets, simple text files, and relational databases like SQL, SATA, and SAS are all supported by the software.
  • SPSS help me to calculate all data needed to analyze the result. I can calculate the availability, reliability and many other aspects. SPSS also help me to calculate statistics combining different factors. Below are statistics generated using SPSS software. These are the demographic information Gender Frequency Percent Valid Percent Cumulative Percent Valid Male (^73) 60.8 60.8 60. Female (^47) 39.2 39.2 100. Total (^120) 100.0 100. II. CONSIDER ALTERNATIVE RESEARCH

METHODOLOGIES AND LESSONS LEARNT IN VIEW OF

THE OUTCOMES (P7)

1. Alternative research approach

  • In this essay, we use the quantitative methods to collect user data through an online survey created using Google Form. With over 100 respondents, online survey helps us a lot in getting the process easier and quicker. It also makes the participants feel more relax during the survey as fear of being judge or recognized do not exist. In the project plan, we have also considered a backup research method in case online survey does not meet the necessary requirements or can not be deployed, which is interviews. The interviews will be face to face, 1 interviewer and 1 respondent. The interview can also be hosted online depends on the scenario. The question will still be the same, but this will be the qualitative research methods, so the project approach and plan will have to be changed significantly in order to conduct the result as the methods we have use. The number of respondents will not be as much as using online surveys, since interview take a lot more times and not many participants feel comfortable to join them.

2. Lesson learn

  • This is the very first time I conduct my own research. I have many problems while doing the research, but it also gives me valuable experience. Some of the skill that I have learned from the project including:
    • Planning skills: Planning skills are talents that significantly increase your output, precision, and efficiency at work. Effective planning is also essential for leading or cooperating with other team members since it allows you to fulfill your obligations while inspiring others to do the same. I will identify potential issues and devise a plan of action to address them during the planning stage. Planning entails actions like creating a project organization, managing the planning process, controlling the project, providing maintenance and support, managing risks, etc. project management abilities. Model selection is crucial since it directly affects the success or failure of the project. One of the extensively used project models in the information technology Kanban, Scrum, ASD, and DSDM are popular examples of agile business practices today.
    • Risk management: The process of discovering, evaluating, and controlling risks to an organization's resources and profits is known as risk management. These dangers can be caused by a number of things, such as monetary unpredictability, legal responsibilities, technological problems, strategic management blunders, accidents, and natural calamities. An effective risk management program aids a business in taking into account all potential risks. The relationship between risks and the potential negative cascade effects on the strategic objectives of an organization are also examined by risk management. In my research, when coming up to the research methods, I have also list out the alternative’s methods, which will be used in case the main methods cannot be applied. This will help the progress smoother even if the online survey has any problems
