for tempo (speed of music) through listening and playing.

Practice #1:

Watch this video and determine the tempo of

Movement I of Spring from The Four Seasons

by Antonio Vivaldi.

Tempo is the speed of music.

This “tempometer” is like the speedometer on a car.

Largo - Very slow (40-60 bpm)

Adagio - Slow (66-76 bpm)

Andante - Walking Speed (76-108 bpm)

Allegro - Fast (120-168 bpm)

Presto - Very Fast (168-200 bpm)

Ritardando (Rit.) - Slow down, like you are stepping on the breaks.

Accelerando (Accel.) - Speed up, like you stepping on the gas pedal.

bpm=beats per minute

Practice

Watch this video and determine the tempo of

Moonlight Sonata by Ludwig van Beethoven.

rhythm with the music.

3. You can make the rhythm pattern louder or quieter by adjusting the maraca.

Find something around your house to make music with. You could use two wooden spoons and a pot or pan from your kitchen, or two pencils and a trash can turned upside down.

  1. Red plus sign = Click “drumsticks” together
  2. Yellow Triangle = Tap “drumsticks” on lap
  3. Green Square = Tap side of “drum” with “drumsticks”
  4. Orange Line = Tap floor/table with “drumsticks”
  5. Blue Circle = Tap top of “drum” with “drumsticks”
