ECE 340 Electronics I Homework #0 (Due: 8/24/2011)

University of Illinois at Chicago Spring 2011

Problems 1– Consider the circuit shown below with node voltages (V 1 , V 2 , V 3 ) and loop currents (I 1 , I 2 , I 3 ).

Vs = 20V I 1 I 2 3Ω I 3 Is = 10A

V 1 V 2 Ix V 3 2 Ix

  1. Find V 1 , V 2 , V 3 using nodal analysis.
  2. Find I 1 , I 2 , I 3 using loop (mesh) analysis.
  3. Find the power dissipation for each element and show that their algebraic sum is zero.
  4. Find the Thevenin equivalent circuit as seen by the current source Is.
  5. Find V 2 due to the 20V voltage source alone.
  6. Find V 2 due to the 10A current source alone.
  7. Find V 2 if the new values for the independent sources are Vs = 10V and Is = 30A.
