ION2: Adapting to Ambiguity
Analyzing Ambiguities Template
D641 Task 1 Analyzing Ambiguity Template
Section A โ€“ Analysis of the Business Changes
Understanding
the Ambiguity
Key Considerations Response to Task Requirements
A1. Summary of
Scenario โ— What key details in the
scenario are important to
note?
Due to the opening of a large chain coffee shop, sales at
the small coffee shop have declined. They have decided to
invest in new technology to combat the decline in sales.
There are six employees at the coffee shop, so the current
employees will have to learn and manage the technology
and machines, and oversee curbside pickup.
A2. Business
Rationale โ— Why are the proposed
changes important for the
business?
โ— What are the potential
outcomes of the proposed
changes to the business?
The owners have decided to invest in an app for mobile ordering
and curbside pickup, and a self-service station for teas and drip
coffee. A potential outcome of these changes is an increase in
sales, which would benefit the business. On the contrary, there
are only six employees. There might be pressure on employees
to manage the new changes, which could decrease employee
satisfaction.
A3. Team Benefits โ— What are potential positive
outcomes for your team?
Potential positive outcomes are job stability. The
employees would not worry about their small coffee shop
having to downsize or lay off employees if sales increase.
Another positive outcome is that employees will be able to
learn new skills that will help advance their careers.

Section B โ€“ Analysis of an Ambiguity Impacting the Team

B1. Description of Ambiguity โ— What might be one ambiguous aspect the proposed changes caused your team? One ambiguous aspect is employees' responsibilities: who would be in charge of taking care of the new coffee and tea machines and curbside pickup? B2. Effects of Ambiguity โ— What are the potential impacts on your teamโ€™s ability to continue to be successful? Potential impacts include improper training on operating the new equipment, decreased efficiency due to ambiguity around employee roles, and an imbalance of duties. Some employees might feel overwhelmed. This would also lead to reduced efficiency and low morale. B3. Gathering Information โ— What are ways you can gather information to learn more about the ambiguity and/or the changes? To gather information, you can use an anonymous survey. This would allow employees the opportunity to voice their opinions without worry. You can also hold a team meeting to address the changes and any concerns the employees might have. B4. Vision โ— What is the ideal desired outcome? The ideal desired outcome is increased sales, employee and customer satisfaction, and greater efficiency and morale among employees.

Section C โ€“ Resolution of the Ambiguity for Success

C1. Resolving Ambiguity โ— What is a possible solution to address the ambiguity? One possible solution to address the ambiguity is to create a detailed plan that trains employees to operate the new equipment, dictates tasks, and sets a rollout date to prepare them for the latest changes. C2. Actions โ— What steps need to be taken to execute the possible solution? First, a guide should be developed to answer any questions employees may have. Next, employees should be adequately trained to operate the new equipment, and a team lead should be selected for curbside pickup, app
