The American Revolution occurred from a growing pressure between
colonists and the British crown. The colonists desired their idea of
government and society, but the British wanted the tradition view. When the
colonists won the independence from Britan, which caused a numerous
amount of radical changes occurred in the organization and political ideas.
During this time, only white males were given rights that couldn’t be taken
away, which improved the country drastically.
In 1791 the Bill of Rights, written by James Madison, was passed,
and it allowed white men to have Freedom of Religion, Speech, The Right
to Bear Arms, and many other privileges from the ten amendments. These
rights, no matter what couldn’t be taken away from them. Furthermore,
another radical alteration was that white men that owned land were allowed
to vote. This was a significant change to the monarch but not for everyone.
The Natives and the Blacks were out of the constitutional system and were
defined as aliens. Also, slaves did not count as citizens until additional
amendments were passed, which gave slaves the right to citizenship
(amendment 13,14, and 15). This still didn’t grant full citizenship because
only of the slaves were counted as a citizen.
During the late 1700s, a new form of government was set up by the
colonists because they did not want to be part of Britain. These three
branches are called the legislative branch which had senates and the
House of Representatives, the Executive branch consisting of the President
and workers, and the Judicial branch which consisted of the Supreme
Court and the nine justices. These groups were separated they had a
system of checks and balances so one group doesn’t become too
overpowering.
During this time, the US had gone through a lot of radical alterations
and expansion of the country. The Bill of Rights allowed people to vote
even if it wasn’t fair, it was a direction to a stable country. Furthermore, the
US was now not being controlled by the crown and had a government of its
own though because America was still a new country, the British were still
in power.
