Experience the Theology Essay Assignment Ronnie Dailey Liberty University Theo 104 (D11) Professer Lumadue 10/30/ THEOLOGY When I hear or see the word “theology,” the first thing that comes to my mind is the science about God. “Theo” means “God” in Greek and “logy is mostly used as a ending name in many other subjects, for example, “sociology ,” “psychology .” This suffix comes from the Greek word “logos” that means “word,” “reason” and “plan.” So, theology is the science that studies God, God’s laws, and God’s rules, also, God’s relationships with people during the long history of the mankind. Being a Christian, I personally believe that this new course is mainly about the understanding of the Christian faith and its ties to the other different religions. Besides achieving a passing grade in this course, I hope to get deep knowledge about God. Different studies of God, in our time, is to know that nobody has seen God, and we are taught nobody knows what God looks like. We are also taught that God never reveals himself to people and it is interesting to know why. I personally am interested to know more about the nature of God and have the answers to some questions that people often ask themselves and others about God. For instance, I know that God created the universe, the earth and everything on the earth. But who created God? People on earth have their own thoughts and ideas about God and these ideas are quite different. Why is it so? Are Hindu people wrong when they say that their God has more than two arms, animal faces, and light blue skin? Many religions have different images of gods in their temples, unlike some religions who do not accept any pictures, icons and statues at all. What religion is the true religion? “What is the truth?” (John 18:38 King James version) It is the main question, that has been asked in the history of all mankind but unfortunately has not been answered yet.
Experience with Theology Personally, I haven’t taken a theology class in my educational experiences. I did attend a Christian School in the past from Kindergarten through 7th grade. We did read and took many tests on the Bible but that was a long time ago. I do go to church on Sunday or I watch our church service on YouTube when I don’t feel good or if my disability is hurting a lot on Sunday. Do I believe in God? Yes I do with all of my heart and soul. Do I talk to God? Yes I do, everyday. I pray to God everyday. Do my prayers get answered? The answer is Yes and No. I know God knows what’s best for me. So, I never ask why to my prayers not being answered. I truly thank him when my prayers are answered. I haven’t, on paper, taken any theology classes but between early teaching and church I guess technically I have been learning Theology of the Bible. I will say that there was a point in my life in 2009 that I truly needed God to help me with a bad situation I was in. I was on my knees for what seemed to be hours asking him to here me and if could come to me with his answer for me. All of a sudden I heard “ My son look up, I am here for you “. What I seen was a face that was nothing like the pictures we see of him to this day. He didn’t have long hair or a beard. I know it seems crazy but with my hand on the Bible, it is true. What I Hope To Take Away From This Course I truly hope and pray that I will learn a lot from this class and get a better understanding of what Theology of God and his words truly mean. I really would like to understand why we have so many Bibles out there with different words and meanings. I was taught and raised on the King James version of the Bible. The main thing that is said in KJV Version is “ Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you (Deuteronomy 4:2) Also, “ For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book” “ And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book” (Revelation 22:18-19) This is the reason why I only read from the KJV Bible (The Original One) I always call the other Bibles “ Feel Good Bibles. Simply because they accept things like same sex marriages when God says in the KJV Version that this is an abomination and by doing this, You are promised internal life in the flames of hell. Hopefully things like this can be learned and explained to me in this course.
