It is defined as the ratio of the algebraic sum of the area under curve to the length of the curve.

A relation between dc and ac quantities

  1. Consider the set up shown in the figure.
  2. A resistor is placed in the water bath and is connected to the ac and dc switch.
  3. When switch 1 is closed current I will pass through the resistor.the temperature of the water determines the dc power dissipated by the resistor.
  4. When switch 2 is closed and 1 is opened. Again current flows. Again the power delivered to the resistor heats up the resistor.
