Newer classification? The current concept of asthma severity is based on “difficulty to treat” -GINA Severe asthma: asthma that remains uncontrolled despite optimized treatment with high dose ICS-LABA or that requires high dose ICS-LABA to prevent it from becoming uncontrolled. Moderate asthma: asthma that is well controlled with Step 3 or Step 4 treatment Mild asthma: asthma that is well controlled with low intensity treatment (as needed low dose ICS-Formoterol or low dose ICS plus as needed SABA)

What is asthma Asthma is a heterogenous disease, usually characterized by chronic airway inflammation. It is defined by the history of respiratory symptoms, such as wheeze, shortness of breath, chest tightness and cough, that vary over time and in intensity, together with variable expiratory airflow limitation GINA 2023
