B1) Rules and Procedures
Video Name: Creating Appealing Plant Baskets
Video #: 1175
Rules and procedures used were direct instruction by the teacher on the exact
expectations to follow in regards to obtaining an iPad from the cart, how to utilize the iPad
in recording a partner transplanting a plant into the basket, and a self-evaluation after the
experiment was completed. This maximized the students learning by allowing for student
self-motivation and active engagement in the lesson on creating plant baskets.
B1a) Classroom Arrangement
The classroom arrangement utilized in this setting is all students were out of their
seats and gathered around the teacher at a workstation allowing for a more intimate setting.
The Classroom arrangement maximized the student learning by allowing a close
demonstration area where the teacher could monitor student engagement and have more
playful interactions with the students. The teacher made jokes on how messy the station was
and jokily laughed when a student Angel tried to help clean up piles of dirt form the table.
B1b) Learning Environment
The environment created by the teacher was respectful and engaging with teacher led
instruction, but student led questioning to spark interest in the activity. Students were able to
follow along in a demonstration and then preform the task themselves. After successfully
being recorded by a partner completing the hanging basket task students were asked to
perform a self-evaluation on a 1 to 5 scale. I can use this self-evaluation technique in my
classroom during instruction as a formative assessment. I can gage the learning experience
and collect data for future reference when utilizing demonstration as a form of teaching.
B2) Student Behavior
Video Name: Developing Collaborative Skills Through a Lego Engineering Activity
Video #: 1273
The teacher anticipates student behavior with two students identified as Chris and
Collin. Chris is a student with ADHD and often needs reminders to stay on task and complete
work properly. Collin is an older student who is two grade levels behind many of the classes

he attends. The teacher says he was able to use insight to keep Chris and Collin focused and engaged with the task and required no verbal ques or prompting This affected the students’ learning by keeping Chris and Collin actively engaged in the lesson and task of building a Lego Tower Engineering Activity. By keeping the two students engaged the teacher was ale to walk the room and engaged with other students who needed additional instruction or to give positive reinforcement. If the teacher had needed to stop instruction multiple time and give verbal ques to Chris and/or Collin the instruction and activity would not have been as productive and engaging for the other students. B2a) Respectful Environment The environment created by the teacher is respectful because it utilizes teamwork and personal work ethic. The students are required to work as team but also use personal work ethic to complete their own section of the task. The environment created by the teacher enhanced communication for students by utilizing the team approach. Students were able to formulate a plan of attack for the Lego building task. In the video I observed students giving verbal ques and physical ques as to who would start the task and who would finish. B3) Highly Effective Classroom Environment Video Name: Analyzing Nonfiction Through Discussion Video #: 1250 The environment created by the teacher utilizes intimate seating and strong thought- provoking open-ended questions by the teacher on the subject matter of racism in history and nonfiction literature through the Civil Rights Movement and Rosa Parks. This makes the classroom highly effective because students are engaged with relevant and intriguing instruction and given real life examples and asked, “How would you feel if this were you”. These students did not personally live through the Civil Rights Movement but with the complex questioning from the teacher are able to imagine what it would be like for them and their family members to have experience such times. B4) Classroom Environment Needing improvement Video Name: Eliciting Student Understandings About Changing States of Matter Video #: 846 One improvement needed by the teacher in this classroom environment is the arrangement of seating. This improvement is needed because the lack of student engagement in class discussion and lack of focus on the teacher during whole group instruction. I observed several students with their backs towards the teacher not engaged in questions and fidgeting with items and heads down on desk. Some of the students with their

  1. Classroom Environment I would like to teach in Video Name: Viewing and Sharing Reactions to Pictures to Practice Communication Skills Video #: 722 Something from this video I would like to include or use in my classroom is the use of visuals for lessons and positive role modeling. The teacher used visual posters as reminders on how to be an effective communicator by using listening and speaking skills. She utilized the visuals as a reference for the students who were struggling to answer questions. She shows positive role modeling doing a demonstration of how-to effectivity communicate with a partner. This connects to my philosophy because it uses positive role modeling and active engagement. The teacher is showing positive role modeling by valuing the student’s response despite some responses being duplicates of another student. The visual connect to my philosophy because it enhances student self-motivation. A student is able to utilize the visual poster rather than asking questions repeated times during independent work.
