Cerebral Palsy - answer- Disturbances in voluntary muscle action due to brain damage from birth injury or abnormal brain development. Signs are spastic paralysis of all four limbs, head rolling, speech and swallowing difficulties. Usually normal intelligence. Poliomyelitis - answer- Contagious viral disease of the nerve pathways of the spinal cord that causes paralysis. Almost eliminated in US due to vaccination. Making a re-occurrence due to refusal to vaccinate. Hydrocephalus - answer- Increased volume of CSF within the ventricles of the brain (blockage between the 3rd and 4th ventricles). Treatment is removal of CSF via shunt insertion.
