heritage and understand the lost glories
2. It would help the British learn from Indian culture
3. The British would become guardians of Indian
culture as well as its masters

I. The orientalists

Many other britishers were insipired and believed that :

  1. Indians should be taught what they were familiar with not the subjects which were new to them
  2. Indians should be encouraged to study their own ancient texts along learning Sanskrit and poetry
  3. It would help british win a place in the hearts of the natives  With these objective these were setup : 1. A madrasa in calcuttain 1781 to promote Arabic, persian and Islamic law 2. A hindu college in banaras in 1791 to encourage the study of Sanskrit
