Chapter 1
End Chapter Questions:
1. What is a research?
Research is a technical, organized, systematic, calculated work in advancing our
knowledge in the development of things before us, things present and things ahead
of us for the purpose of innovation, research work and application.
Research is gathering of information and ideas in order to create a new concept
that is significant in the design and development of new technology and
advancement of it.
Research is a tool that propels ideas from a certain concept to becoming a
research work. An idea that both develop and improve any existing studies,
research work or any scientific, physical application to further advance information
and technology.
Research is an engineering intervention in making designs, processes, systems,
which constitute studies, investment, time and effort in order to develop new
projects.
2. Discuss the importance of research.
Research is the foundation of anything we see today. In the field of engineering,
technology, medicine, law and any contributing factors in the development of our
society.
Research also is where the economic progress and sustainability depends. It
concentrates to progress development of economy and social life of a certain
community, individual or a nation as a whole. Research and development in the
field of medicine, engineering, economics, business are all driving force in the
advancement of our livelihood. So long research will benefit for the good of
mankind, then research is a continuing process for the sustainability of our life.
Research guides us to make good decision to whatsoever project or study we are
into. It gives us the benefit to make things organized and not be misled with the
information we gather but rather be intelligent in gathering of information.
3. Four Frameworks research process. Discuss its relationship:
The four frameworks of research process are conceptual, theoretical,
methodological and analytical frameworks.
These are the systematic and organized procedure in order to establish details on
a particular research project.
These are all interconnected. From a concept of an idea or potential project, to
gathering information, testing the idea if it is theoretically calculated. Applying
methods on how it works, or the process of it and doing technical and visual
analysis in order to determine if it align with your research proposal. It is a process
of which through these frameworks, a research is deemed possible or with
potential.
4. Discuss the importance of literature review:
Literature review is a careful analysis on your research proposal that might have
similar objective or existing studies prior to your conception of the idea. It will help
sort out specification on which your study should concentrate without committing
violation of plagiarism. Instead, it must add informative idea to any research
without conflict to its content, but rather compliments or complete in case there are
ideas that is worth adding or modifying, making it as a new potential research.
5. Discuss how the research process starts.
Research starts with an idea. You conceptualize idea to be studied. An idea based
on observation, experience, existing facts, existing studies, thought process and
sometimes imagination.
o A research must be supported with facts, gathering of information,
calculation and experimentation in order to prove that such idea is possible
and viable.

An idea based on observation, experience, existing facts, existing studies, thought process and sometimes imagination. o A research must be supported with facts, gathering of information, calculation and experimentation in order to prove that such idea is possible and viable.

o For the advancement of your research, proper elimination between the necessary information from the unnecessary are critical to narrow down the very core of your study.  You plan the study. By setting up objectives that are useful to your proposal. o From the data gathered, you come up with a system to sort things in order to analyse those data. We can apply qualitative and quantitative approach to better plan the study. o Part of the plan is to identify the market, or the target data or target population.  Conducting the study is through experimentation, observation based on the data gathered. o Processing, calculating and analyzing are the fundamental approach to come up with the result of the analysis.  Part of the research process is its proper documentation of its development. Whether gathering of established facts or doing theoretical testing or actual testing of the study, it must be documented. Any observation or discovery during the process, needs documentation. Because data observed are significant in the furtherance of the study once plausible outcome are developed.

  1. Discuss ethics in the conduct of research.  Ethics is a moral standard in which a researcher should adhere in order to make a research trustworthy and with integrity. Anything that we do, ethics is of significant factor to validate what we are doing is correct and proper. In doing research, from conceptualizing idea, title proposal, gathering information up to doing write ups, the content must hold integrity that it will reflect positive view no matter some research is complex but does not in any way damage other peoples character or own work.
  2. Expound and explain at least five ethical principles in conducting a research process.  Honesty – A researcher must in anyway be transparent and whatsoever information gathered that supports any research proposal must have reported properly and declare its reference with respect to the original source of the information. This will affect the consistency of the research and veracity of the information if the form of conceptualizing holds an honest intention.  Objectivity – Part of a research is to ensure that it does not malign, dishonor, dismiss, contradicts or create conflicting ideas between information or source as reference to a researcher’s new project. Conducting a research shall focus on the goal of the study without in any way being biased in the process. A research must have a clear objective in order to address the overall framework of the study or project.  Integrity – This is a significant characteristic a researcher must possessed. In doing research, gathering of information must be reliable and must be supported with facts. Anything that requires improvement, modification to any existing designs, studies must hold constant information. Information that are based on actual operation, existing studies, or if there will be positive deviation from the former study in order to make it more advance, must in anyway be technical and theoretically supported.  Carefulness – Any information gathered must be treated with careful consideration and careful study. A research requires confidentiality while in the process of gathering data and information. Anything that must be broadcast or the inclusion of information from any source must require consent from the origin or otherwise be quoted as reference in respect to the author.  Openness and transparency – This requires teamwork and consultation. Mentoring is a good tool in developing work ethics, establishing rapport, strengthening the research study. Good and reliable experience makes a research more profound and complete. No good research is hidden specially when it will do good to people.  Respect of Intellectual property rights – The paramount of all moral standard in doing research. Exercising respect to all references that can contribute to the improvement of a new research study.  Anonymity and confidentiality – Anything that is work in progress should be kept confidential until it is complete. Research work holds a vital information that may
