This chapter presents the methods of the study. It consists of research design, research locale, research respondents, research instruments, data gathering procedure, statistical treatment of data, and the scoring or parameter use. Research design This study is correlational quantitative research. Therefore, the study used the correlational research design in order for the researchers to determine if there is a significant relationship between utilizing video tutorials in improving the problem-solving skills of students in the subject General Physics. To generate the data, a survey questionnaire was used to gather or elicit the needed information on the different variables or objectives considered in the study including the respondents’ profile. This study is about the effectiveness of using video tutorials in learning general physics to Grade 12 students under Science, Technology, Engineering, and mathematics (STEM) course in Senior high of selected schools in Cortes. The researcher thought that this is the appropriate method to use for it involved some comparison and analysis on data gathered. The researcher desired that the findings of this study will determine the students’ perspective about their challenges and level of difficulty in learning the subject, and it will also enhance the students’ problem-solving skills.
Research Locale The location of the study was mainly focused in Grade 12 STEM room in Tigao National High School. The School is located at barangay Tigao in municipality of Cortes province of Surigao del Sur. The researchers chose Tigao National High School (TNHS) as their research locale, since it is the only school in Cortes that offers the course or strand of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Research Respondents The respondents of this study were the Senior High School students from Grade 12 Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) that are officially enrolled at Tigao National High School for the school year 2021-2022. The researchers chose STEM 12 students because they only had General Physics subject among other strands: There are 37 students enrolled in Grade 12 STEM in Tigao National High School as the respondents of this research study. Target Respondents Number of Males Number of Females Total Grade 12 STEM Students of Tigao National High School
Research Instruments The research instruments used in this study were a consent letter for school principal, a pre-designed survey questionnaire, handouts, and tutorial videos for the students. The questionnaire was a tool used by the researcher to collect data, which was used to determine the students’ perspective in watching tutorial videos.
guides in answering the given problems. Each student was provided with one hour to read the information sheets, watch the tutorial videos, and answer the test and survey forms. Statistical Treatment The data were gathered from the questionnaire and presented in tables. Appropriate statistical treatment will be applied to the gathered data. The following tools have been used in the study. Percentage and frequency distribution is used to organize and describe the personal profile of the students-respondents and instructors respondents. Descriptive Statistics (Minimum, Maximum, Mean and Standard Deviation). These are used to describe the test scores of the students. Weighted Mean and Descriptive Rating was used to describe the tutorial videos effectiveness given by the researchers. Below are the interpretations for the scores, mean and weighted means gathered. Standard Deviation is the most important measure of dispersion since it enables us to determine with a great deal of accuracy where the values of the distribution are located in relation to the mean. This was used in describing the dispersion of the students’ scores in the test. Test of Normality. As a general rule in using parametric statistical treatment in research writing, the data have undergone tests using Shapiro-Wilks Testing to justify that data are normally distributed. Referring to the data below, all the values under the
last column are greater than 0.05, this means that the data gathered are normally distributed.
