Ms. Mann’s Sophomore English: Self-Selected Reading Project— 1 st^ 9 Weeks Choice 3 1 st^ 9 Weeks Self-Selected Reading Project Choice 3
Objective: To interpret character actions and novel’s events by creating a scrapbook from the point of view of a main character. Requirements: All of the following items (c-h) can be incorporated onto the same pages. However, scrapbook must be at least 4 pages not counting the cover. a) Cover—should include character’s name b) Inside cover—should include novel’s title and author, your name and class period c) At least 2 journal entries (6-8 sentences EACH) d) A postcard—to your character or from your character that discusses a conflict e) Pictures/illustrations—with captions to explain their significance f) Quotes—at least 2 with an explanation about their significance g) Trinkets/objects representing the character, setting, and/or events (at least 5) h) Creativity and critical thinking—come up with your own ideas as to what your character would include in a scrapbook Your goal with this scrapbook is to demonstrate your sophisticated understanding of the novel, so make sure your “items” convey that you not only understood the plot (and read the entire book) but that you made some judgments and had some insights about it. You can make your scrapbook out of any colored paper that your character would choose. Bind the scrapbook in a manner that would be done to represent the setting of your novel. The appearance of the scrapbook will also help to show the character and your understanding of the novel. Character’s Scrapbook Below Avg. Satisfactory Excellent
