Character Scrapbook
Objective: To inte rpret charact er actions and novel’s event s by creating a scrapbook from the point of view of a
main characte r.
Req uirements: All of the following ite ms (c-h) can be incorporate d onto the same pages. However, scrapbook
must be at least 4 pages not counting the cover .
a) Cover—should incl ude character’s name
b) Inside cover—should include novel’s title and author, your name and class period
c) At le ast 2 journal entr ies (6-8 sentences EACH)
d) A postcard—to your character or from your characte r that discusses a conflict
e) Pictures/illustrati ons—with captions to expl ain their significance
f) Quotes—at least 2 with an explanation about the ir significance
g) Trinkets/objects representi ng the character, setting, and/or eve nts (at least 5)
h) Creativity and critical thinking—come up with your own ide as as to what your character
would incl ude in a scrapbook
Your goal with this scrapbook is to demonstrate your sophisticated under standing of the novel, so make sure your
“items” convey that you not only understood the plot (and read the enti re book) but that you made some
judgment s and had some insights about it.
You can make your scrapbook out of any colored paper that your character would choose. Bind the scrapbook in a
manner that would be done to represe nt the setting of your novel. The appearance of the scrapbook wil l also hel p
to show the charact er and your understanding of the novel.

Character Scrapbook
