The mission of the US Commissions on Civil Rights involves making sure civil rights policy is
developing on the national level and are made into federal civil rights laws. It has become
necessary to fight for civil rights because of the discrimination many people have faced from
others and our society. People have been discriminated against based on their background, what
they look like , their religion, their gender, and for even having a disability(big or small). This
commission wants to protect citizens from having to deal with discrimination and that's why
when the Civil Rights Act of 1957 allowed the creation of the US Commission on Civil Rights ,
it became a great step forward in society for all citizens. Creating a better environment for future
generations; to know that they will have a chance to better the world without having to worry
being brushed passed by others. To be kept up-to-date on what discrimination is still occurring in
the world , the commission does research and try to analyze issues so that they can come up with
a new outcome or solution. Figuring out different ways to get people to understand the necessity
of having equal opportunity in society is important.
There are many responsibilities and powers this commission is given and must maintain to keep
the mission they have set for themselves going forward . The commission is allowed to issue
press releases while also having the authority to hold public briefings for matters involving the
ideas of civil rights. They also put public information on their website so anyone who visits their
websites can learn about the issues that have occurred over civil rights . While conducting
hearings for crucial cases of certain issues that have involvement with civil right. this
commission also has the power to subpoena for any documents and eyewitnesses necessary for
the case. It is necessary that they recommend ideas to policymakers while making sure they
